Lady Canes shut out Cass to regain region lead; Woodland falls at Cedartown

The Cartersville Lady Canes took a half-game lead in the Region 7-4A standings and won the rubber game of a three-game regular-season series with Cass on Thursday night with a 4-0 home victory over the Cass Lady Colonels.
The two teams had split the first two games of their series, with each team winning on its home field.
Following two scoreless innings on Thursday, Cartersville got on the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Addi Burns reached base on an error to begin the Lady Canes’ third. LaKiaya Banks moved Burns to second with a sacrifice bunt. Kinsey Woodard drove in Burns with a single, and Zoie Shiflett followed with a double to score Woodard. Sam Porter drove in the third Canes’ run with a two-out single.
Cartersville added an insurance run in the next inning. Sophia Harper reached base on a walk to open the frame and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Emilee Brinson.

Shiflett earned the Cartersville pitching win by working all seven innings in the circle. She scattered five hits, issued no walks, and struck out five.
Kylie Gentry (6 IP, 4R, 2ER, 6H, 4BB) took the pitching loss for Cass.
Five Colonels had one hit each, including Shyia Woods, Natalie Hughes, Bailey York, Lindsey Chubb, and Harlee Thomason.
Cartersville (19-2, 12-2) has a doubleheader at Woodland on Tuesday.
Cass (14-5, 12-3) plays at Hiram on Tuesday.
CEDARTOWN 12, WOODLAND 4
Woodland led Cedartown 2-0 through 4-½ innings Thursday, but the host Lady Bulldogs scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth and seven in the fifth to close out a five-inning region victory, 12-4.
Evelyne Tucker (4.1 IP, 8ER, 8H, 0BB, 1K) was the losing pitcher for Woodland. Bella Kuykendall (0.1 IP, 5R, 4ER, 4H, 1BB) retired one out in the fifth inning.
Bailey Gerstner (RBI) and Gracie Korb (RBI) had two hits for the Lady Cats. Ashlyn Baines and Sonny Hicks added one hit.
Cedartown improved to 12-8 overall and 11-4 in Region 7-4A.
Woodland (6-10, 4-7) hosts Adairsville in a non-region game on Saturday at 10 a.m.
