Lady Canes topple Titans to reach the Class AAAA Final Four

The Cartersville Lady Canes defeated the visiting Northview Titans 64-51 Tuesday night at The Storm Center, advancing the program to the GHSA Final Four for the second time in three years.


Cartersville raced to an early lead, then held off a third-quarter threat before taking control in the fourth quarter. The Lady Canes led 22-8 after one quarter and 40-22 at halftime. Northview charged back in the third quarter by outscoring Cartersville 19-6, but the Hurricanes responded with an 18-10 final eight minutes for the victory.


Columbus State signee Kaytlin Arnold paced Cartersville with 20 points, including 17 points in the first half and three buckets from behind the arc. Zoe McCurry scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Trinity Montgomery also produced 13 points with six boards and five assists. Blakely Morris contributed nine points. Reese Gibson pitched in seven, and Akira Leonard added two points for the Canes.


Kelly Reynolds and Erin Hobbs led Northview (18-13) with 14 and 13 points, respectively.


Cartersville (24-5) advanced to the Class AAAA state semifinals to play Marist (27-2) at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Akins Arena in Athens. The War Eagles defeated North Oconee 63-49 on Tuesday in their quarterfinal game.


The other Class AAAA semifinal will be Kell (24-5) against Jones County (25-5) on Saturday in Athens at 1 p.m.  Kell topped Dalton 52-41 on Tuesday, and Jones County defeated Creekside 48-34.
