Lady Canes win 16th consecutive Bartow County championship tournament
The Cartersville Lady Canes’ volleyball team won a 16th consecutive Bartow County Championship Tournament title Saturday with a trio of straight sets wins in the event hosted by Cass High School.
Cartersville defeated Adairsville in the opening round and Cass in the semifinals. The Hurricanes then faced Adairsville again in the finals to claim the county title once again.
The first round win over Adairsville was 25-12, 25-15. The Lady Canes then topped Cass 25-17, 25-9 and closed out their championship match over Adairsville 25-9, 25-16.
Lauren Lawson and Ailee England shared team honors in kills for the three matches with 19 each. Lawson and Mia Nicklas both finished with seven service aces. Aly Dunn and Bailey Gardner had a pair of blocks each in the triple-header. Nicklas contributed a team-high 18 digs and Lily Gochee produced 47 assists on the day.
In other matches, Cass defeated Woodland 25-21, 25-19. Adairsville outlasted Woodland in three sets with the Lady Cats winning the opening set 25-18 before the Lady Tigers took the final two sets 25-22 and 15-13.
Then to reach the finals, Adairsville stopped Cass in three sets. The Colonels won the opening set 25-19 before the Lady Tigers won the last two sets 25-12 and 16-14.
In Adairsville’s run to a runner-up finish, Richlyn Blair and Jenna Claire Hendley led the team in kills. Hendley and Addie Pearson paced the Tigers in blocks. Sherry Wells was the team leader in digs and Annie McCormick was the Adairsville assists leader.
Jada Zimmerman had seven service aces on the day for the Lady Colonels and Tamira Feanny totaled nine kills in the Cass matches.
Cartersville (21-12) travels to Hiram Tuesday where the Lady Canes will also play Cass.
Adairsville (11-17-2) makes a trip to Chickamauga Tuesday to play Dade County and host Gordon Lee.
Cass (10-19-1) travels to Hiram Tuesday where they will also face Cartersville.
Woodland (4-21-1) will make the ride to Shannon on Tuesday to face Darlington and host Model.
