Lady Cats 3rd, Wildcats 4th as Woodland hosts 16th annual Run at the Rock


The Woodland girls placed third and the Woodland boys were fourth Saturday hosting the 16th annual Run at the Rock.


The Cartersville girls placed 10th and the Canes’ boys finished sixth.


The Woodland girls third place finish had all five counting runners in the top 30.


The King’s Academy won the girls championship with Marietta finishing as runner-up. East Paullding and Coosa closed out the top five of 14 teams. The Lady Canes placed 10th in the race that included 118 runners on the 5K course.


Sophia Cook (19:52) and Alishia Cook (20:37) of Coosa finished first and second to capture the individual champion and runner-up slots.


Woodland senior Emma Segars (22:18) placed fifth. Other scoring runs for the Lady Cats included Olivia Berry (13th, 23:13), Danielle Thayer (15th, 23:24), Miranda Pelow (29th, 24:22), and Abby George (30th, 24:32).


Cartersville was led by the 12th place finish of Anna Grace Boone (22:53). Other Lady Canes included Samantha Herrera (46th, 26:04), Meredith Gaines (54th, 26:37), Julianne Latham (75th, 28:02), and Rileigh Worthan (108th, 30:37).


The Woodland boys placed fourth, the Cartersville boys were sixth, and the Cass boys were 10th in the 16-team field that included 129 runners.


Marietta won the boys championship followed by Darlington and Cedartown. Duluth placed fifth.


Eli Corn of East Paulding was the boys individual winner. He completed the Woodland High course in 16:36 just ahead of the Wildcats’ Tyler Jones who finished in 17:03.


Malachi Vosburgh led the Cartersville boys in 17:53 with a fifth place finish.


Rounding out the Woodland scoring runs were Drew Thayer (20th, 18:52), Landon McSwain (23rd, 18:54), Juan Mendoza (25th, 18:56), Andy Forsyth (45th, 19:47) and Rowan Lee (46th, 19:50).


Top finishers for the Hurricanes included Omar Pina (19th, 18:50), Hayden Mitchell (31st, 19:22), Barrett Stepp (36th, 19:34), and Paul Hyman (54th, 19:58).



Leonardo Galeana (59th, 20:07) paced the Cass runners. He was followed by Colonels teammates Jake Wright (67th, 20:30), Sawyer Foy (74th, 20:46), Andrew Rampey (79th, 20:53), and Adam Pierce (91st, 21:38).


Next Saturday, the Cartersville teams along with the Cass boys will compete in the Carrollton Orthopaedic Invitational on the GHSA State Championship course at Carrollton High School.


Woodland will participate next Saturday in the Big Peach Mustang Stampede hosted by Kennesaw Mountain High School.
