Woodland softball opened its 2025 campaign this past Friday with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Model in Rome.
Both teams were strong in the pitching circle, but Model (1-0) pushed across single runs in the bottom of the first and third innings to outproduce the Lady Cats. Woodland’s lone run scored on a two-out, RBI single by Kamryn Smith, scoring Sonny Hicks, who had reached base earlier on a Blue Devils’ error.
Evelyne Tucker (5 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 5BB, 3K) made the pitching start for Woodland and was tagged with the loss. Bella Kuykendall worked a scoreless sixth inning in the circle, allowing no hits or walks with one strikeout.
Woodland (0-1) totaled five hits in the contest. Ashlyn Baines was 3-for-3. Smith and Bailey Ryan had the other hits for the Lady Cats.
Two other scheduled games for Woodland were rained out on Saturday.
Up next for the Lady Cats is their Region 7-AAAA opener at Cass on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
