Lady Colonels advance to Christmas Clash title game; Excel boys earn consolation victory

Claire Davis scored 16 points in the Lady Colonels' 55-43 win Wednesday over Kennesaw Mountain.

The Cass girls won their eleventh straight game to start the season and reached the Adairsville Ace Christmas Clash championship game with a 55-43 win over Kennesaw Mountain Wednesday night.

The Lady Colonels broke open a tight semifinal game in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Lady Mustangs 18-9 over the final eight minutes.

Cass led 15-8 after one quarter; 25-24 at halftime; and 37-34 heading into the fourth quarter.

Claire Davis scored 16 points to lead Cass. Ariana Hames and Londaisha Smith followed with 12 points each. Haley Johnson finished with five points. Gracie Elkins posted four points. Amaya Ford and Keara McDaniel added three points apiece.

Madison Clark and J Bates led Kennesaw Mountain with 13 points each. The Lady Mustangs (6-3) will play in the third place game Thursday at 4 p.m. against Armuchee. Cass (11-0) advances to the tournament championship game Thursday at 7 p.m. against Rockmart (6-3). The Yellow Jackets beat Armuchee in Wednesday’s other semifinal game, 57-49.


EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BOYS 47, MT. PARAN 44

The Excel Christian Academy boys led at each quarter stop Wednesday night, but had to hold off a late rally by Mt. Paran to win 47-44. Excel led 12-11 after the first quarter; 28-17 at halftime; and 36-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

Elijah Payne scored 17 points for the Eagles. Rashard Doyal followed with 10 points. Jakaden Barkely finished with nine points. Blake Bailey and Kalil Holley rounded out the ECA scoring with seven and four points, respectively.

Dylan Benefield led Mt. Paran (2-9) with 15 points. Shaun Smith scored 10.

ECA (5-5) advances to the Adairsville Ace Christmas Clash consolation final Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against Temple. The Tigers beat Woodland Wednesday 69-38.


CALHOUN 84, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 80

Calhoun took a 24-16 lead in the first quarter and held off Adairsville down the stretch for a four-point win Wednesday night in semifinal action at the Adairsville Ace Christmas Clash. The visiting Yellow Jackets led 42-37 at the intermission and were ahead 68-67 through three quarters.

Dylan Faulkner scored 27 points to lead Calhoun. Peyton Law chipped in 19 and Jaylan Harris scored 12 points for the Yellow Jackets.

T.J. Printup, Jr. scored 42 points to lead Adairsville. Zach Postell added 13 for the Tigers.

Calhoun (4-4) advances to the tournament championship game Thursday at 8:30 p.m. where they will face Cartersville. Adairsville (5-4) will square off with Rockmart (3-6) in the third place game at 5:30 p.m. The Tigers lost a Region 6-AAA game at Rockmart Dec. 12, 62-60.
