Lady Colonels, Lady Canes, Tigers collect region wins Tuesday

The Cass and Cartersville girls along with the Adairsville boys were winners Tuesday night in region basketball action across the area.


 

CASS GIRLS 45, HIRAM 30

Cass sophomore Claire Davis led Cass with 16 points Tuesday night in a 45-30 win over Hiram.

The Lady Colonels avenged a January 3 overtime loss at Hiram Tuesday night with a 45-30 win over the visiting Lady Hornets. Cass led the whole way with a 9-5 lead after one period, 27-19 lead at halftime, and a 36-21 advantage through three quarters. Claire Davis paced Cass with 16 points and Londaisha Smith followed with 10. Irmani Smith was the top scorer for Hiram (13-11, 8-7) with 10 points. Cass finished the regular season with a 17-8 mark and 8-8 record in Region 7-AAAAA. The Lady Colonels will now prepare for their opening region tournament game next week.

CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 33, CHAPEL HILL 29

Lehla Thomas led the Lady Canes with 11 points and six rebounds as Cartersville won at Chapel Hill Tuesday night, 33-29. The host Lady Panthers led 8-4 after one quarter and 15-9 at halftime before Cartersville grabbed a 24-21 lead through three quarters. Ariana Cochran followed with six points for Cartersville. Cio Seigler added five while Naijah Evans, Alexia Henderson, and Miya Moore added three points each. Moore hauled in five boards. Savannah Howard led the Panthers with 17 points. The loss dropped Chapel Hill to 10-13 overall and 3-7 in Region 5-AAAA. Cartersville (10-13, 3-8) has now won two of three and will close out the regular season Saturday afternoon in the Storm Center with Troup at 3:30 p.m. CARROLLTON 54, WOODLAND GIRLS 24

The 6th-ranked Lady Trojans of Carrollton won at Woodland Tuesday night, 54-24. Carrollton led 14-11 after one period, 32-11 at halftime, and 43-19 through three quarters on their way to a 30-point victory. De’mauri Flournoy led the visiting Trojans (15-9, 11-4) with 19 points. Kanija Daniel followed with 12. Ansley Evans scored seven for the Lady Cats. Carli Clymer added six and Gracie Styles five for Woodland. Woodland (4-19, 2-13) hosts Villa Rica Friday at 6 p.m. HARALSON COUNTY 42, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 33 The visiting Lady Rebels earned their first Region 6-AAA win of the year Tuesday night at Adairsville, 42-33. Haralson County improved to 6-17 overall and 1-14 in league play. Adairsville (5-19, 2-13) closes out the regular season Friday night at 7 p.m. at Murray County. ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 64, HARALSON COUNTY 42 A 13-0 spurt by the Tigers in the first quarter helped Adairsville recover from a slow start to take a 13-12 lead after eight minutes on their way to a 64-42 Region 6-AAA win at home Tuesday night over Haralson County. A second 13-0 run in the second quarter gave the Tigers all the cushion they would need on this night. Adairsville led 34-14 at halftime. T.J. Printup led three Tigers in double figures with 15 points. Savaun Henderson scored 14 and Gavin Crunkleton 13 for Adairsville. Jaxon Welchel added nine for the Tigers. Haralson County falls to 3-21 overall and 0-15 in region action. Adairsville (10-13, 6-9) wraps up the regular season Friday night at 8:30 p.m. at Murray County. CHRISTIAN HERITAGE 71, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BOYS 53 The Excel Christian Academy boys basketball team fell at Dalton’s Christian Heritage Tuesday night, 71-53. The host Lions led 18-9 after one quarter, 34-27 at the intermission, and 55-34 through three quarters on their way to an 18-point win in Region 6-A. Drew Clements led Christian Heritage (18-2, 10-2) with 25 points. Nash Bingham and William Green followed with 21 and 13 points, respectively. Kalil Holley and Rayshawn Womack paced the Eagles with 14 apiece. Rashard Doyal scored 11 for ECA (3-20, 2-10). Excel plays it final regular season game Friday at Bowdon at 7:30 p.m. HIRAM 61, CASS 54 The Colonels lost their final regular season game at home Tuesday night to Hiram, 61-54. Cass led through three quarters, but were outscored 20-11 in the fourth quarter in the seven-point decision. The Colonels led 14-10 after one quarter, 31-23 at halftime, and 43-41 through three quarters. Jayven Brown led Hiram (18-6, 12-3) with 20 points. Jackson Price and Arshad Crepsac followed with 15 and 11 points, respectively. Jordan Ford paced Cass (14-11, 9-7) with 21 points. Braxton Benham scored 13. CHAPEL HILL 73, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 39 The host 4th-ranked Panthers improved to 16-7 overall and 8-2 in Region 5-AAAA. Cartersville (7-12, 3-8) hosts Troup County Saturday night at 5 p.m. CARROLLTON 98, WOODLAND BOYS 31 Class AAAAA 10th ranked Carrollton (17-7, 11-4) Woodland 2-22, 0-15 hosts Villa Rica Friday at 7:30 p.m.
