Lady Colonels win softball region opener with Woodland

Cass pitcher Kylie Gentry struck out ten and went all seven innings in the circle to help lead the Cass Lady Colonels to a season-opening, Region 7-AAAA victory Tuesday over Woodland, 7-3.


Gentry scattered five hits and three walks, allowing three earned runs.


Woodland and Cass were tied 2-2 through 4-½ innings, but the Lady Colonels posted four runs in the bottom of the fifth and one more in the sixth to secure the win.


Evelyne Tucker (4.1 IP, 4R, 2ER, 5H, 2BB) and Bella Kuykendall (1.2 IP, 3R, 1ER, 3H, 2BB) shared the pitching duties for the Lady Cats.


Molli Morrow (RBI) and Braelyn Franklin had two hits for Cass. Shyla Woods (RBI), Bailey York (RBI), KK Evans (RBI), Natalie Hughes, and Harlee Thomason added one hit. Gentry produced one RBI.


Kamryn Smith (two RBI), Kylee Poston (RBI), Bailey Ryan, and Sonny Hicks had one hit for Woodland.


Woodland (0-2) travels to Cedartown on Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. start.


Cass (1-0) visits Cartersville on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
