The Adairsville High School girls soccer team delivered a commanding performance Tuesday night at home, shutting out the visiting Douglass-Atlanta Astros 10-0 in a first-round Class AAA playoff matchup.
Adairsville’s midfielders and strikers completely controlled possession throughout the contest, preventing the Astros from registering a single shot on goal. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half, which was shortened to 20 minutes due to the lopsided scoreline.
Ella Edwards got the scoring started early, finding the net in the 4th minute off an assist from Alexa Damer. Edwards added another goal just a minute later in the 5th minute, this time assisted by Addi Jerauld. She completed her hat trick in the 9th minute with her third goal of the night, again set up by Damer. Alexa Damer then scored in the 10th minute off a feed from Braylynn Martin. Martin got on the scoreboard herself in the 12th minute, assisted by Sam Gough. Damer added her second goal of the match in the 13th minute with an assist from Martin, and Alivia Joslin capped the first-half barrage with a goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Gough.
In the second half, Ryleigh Parker scored in the 24th minute off an assist from Carly Edwards. Sam Gough notched a goal in the 32nd minute, assisted by Piper Tordrup, and Alexa Damer finished the scoring with her third goal of the game in the 33rd minute, again set up by Tordrup.
The victory improved Adairsville’s record to 16-2 and sent the Lady Tigers into the Class AAA Sweet Sixteen. Adairsville will host Johnson-Gainesville (12-5) next Tuesday night. The Knights advanced with a 10-0 first-round win over Mt. Zion-Jonesboro on Tuesday.
Douglass-Atlanta’s season came to an end with a 10-5 record.
