The Adairsville Lady Tigers opened Region 7-AAA play in dominant fashion Thursday night, defeating the Northwest Whitfield Lady Bruins 5-0 at Northwest in Tunnel Hill.
Adairsville wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Alexa Damer netted the first goal in the ninth minute off an assist from Addi Jerauld, giving the Lady Tigers an early 1-0 advantage.
Damer struck again late in the first half, scoring in the 37th minute on an assist from Alivia Joslin to extend the lead to 2-0. That score held through halftime as Adairsville controlled play.
The Lady Tigers quickly added to their lead after the break. Joslin scored in the 41st minute off an assist from Damer to make it 3-0. Damer completed a hat trick just four minutes later, finding the net in the 45th minute on an assist from Ella Edwards.
Adairsville capped the scoring in the 51st minute when Caelynn Disbrow scored off Joslin’s second assist of the night.
Defensively, the Lady Tigers preserved the shutout behind goalkeeper Bethany Kilgore, who made a key save in the second half to maintain the clean sheet. Chikondi Banda later entered goal and played the final 20 minutes.
Adairsville head coach Dave Sexauer credited Gracie Cash and Emma Edwards for their outstanding defensive play and also noted that Ella Edwards had her best game of the season.
With the victory, Adairsville improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 7-AAA. Northwest Whitfield falls to 3-4-1 overall and 1-1 in region play.
The Lady Tigers return to action Tuesday when they travel to Calhoun.
