Lady Tigers, Lady Canes win softball openers

The Adairsville and Cartersville softball teams opened their 2025 seasons on Monday with road victories at Paulding County and Rockmart, respectively.
ADAIRSVILLE 6, PAULDING COUNTY 5
The Adairsville Lady Tigers trailed 3-0 in the early innings Monday evening, but rallied over the final five frames to pull out a season-opening 6-5 win at Paulding County.
Maddie Baggett collected the pitching victory by working the final 6-⅓ innings in the circle. She allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Ashlynn Durden led the Tigers’ bats with two hits and one RBI. Ansley Powell had one hit with two RBI. Ashlyn Carlton produced a triple with one RBI, and Alivia Joslin had one hit and one RBI.
Adairsville (1-0) is scheduled to play at Walker on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
CARTERSVILLE 12, ROCKMART 8
It took ten innings Monday night, but the Cartersville Lady Canes opened their 2025 season with a 12-8 victory at Rockmart.
The two teams battled to a 6-6 tie through regulation, and both teams scored two runs in the ninth inning before Cartersville put the game away with a four-run top of the tenth inning.
Presley Crabbe (2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB, 4K) picked up the pitching win in relief of Cartersville's starting pitcher, Zoie Shiflett (8 IP, 6R, 4ER, 10H, 2BB, 8K).
Sophia Harper had four hits, including one double, for the Lady Canes’ offense. Taryn Bradley had three hits and three RBI. Shiflett also had three hits with one double and one RBI. Emilee Brinson produced two hits, including a double and three RBI. Kennedy Crenshaw contributed two hits, including one double and one RBI. Carder Brock (RBI), Addie Burns (RBI), and LaKiaya Banks added one hit.
Cartersville (1-0) hosts a Region 7-AAAA game with Dalton on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
