Late runs lift Catamounts past Cass
Dalton scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning Tuesday night on their way to a come-from-behind 7-4 win at Cass.
The Colonels led 4-0 through the first five innings.
Carson Hill drove in a first inning run with a single. Devan Hutchinson drove home a run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly. Hill popped a solo home run in the fifth and Chase Tatum drove in a run later in the fifth with a sac fly.
Dalton’s six-run sixth included three singles and four doubles as the Catamounts took the lead for good.
Cass managed a base runner in both the sixth and seventh innings, but failed to produce any more runs.
Brady McCullough and Tyson Greenwade combined for six hits and four RBIs for Dalton. Josh Mitchell (1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB) picked up the pitching win in relief. Connor Stockard (2 IP, 0R, 2H, 2K) earned a save for the Catamounts.
Hill (5.1 IP, 4ER, 9H, 1BB, 7K) made the pitching start for Cass. Trenton Payne (0.0 IP, 2ER, 3H) suffered the pitching loss. Hutchinson (1.2 IP, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 1K) retired the final five outs on the mound for the Colonels.
Hill finished with three hits including a home run and three RBIs. Wesley Collins (double) and Cayden Roberts had two hits each. Jesiel Moctezuma, Chase Tatum (RBI), and Nic Wright added one hit apiece.
Dalton (3-10, 1-3) hosts Cass (8-6, 3-1) Thursday in the second game of their three-game region series this week. The series concludes Friday at Cass. Start times are 5:55 p.m. for both dates.
