Late runs lift Lady Canes over Cass; Woodland keeps Dalton winless in region play


Coach Glen Woodard has guided the Lady Canes to an 8-1 mark in Region 7-AAAAA.

Cartersville overcame a 6-4 deficit through four innings Thursday night for a come-from-behind 13-6 win at Cass.


The Lady Canes scored three times in the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning to secure the victory.


Kennedy Stevens (3.1 IP, 0R, 3H, 0BB, 2K) picked up the pitching win for Cartersville in relief of starter Ava Perkins (3.2 IP, 6R, 5ER, 3H, 7BB, 4K).


Layne Callan (2 RBIs) and Jordan Bishop had two hits each for the Hurricanes. Elizabeth Nelson (RBI), Reese Dumas (RBI), Stevens (RBI), Erin McCrary (RBI), and Campbell Rogers finished with one hit each.


Emma Gibson (4 IP, 6R, 4ER, 4H, 4BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for Cass. Alexis Woods (2 IP, 7R, 2ER, 5H, 5BB, 1K) and Bailey York (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) also pitched for the Lady Colonels.


Reese Howard (2 RBIs) had two hits for the Cass offense. Ansley Hight contributed a double. Haylee Dishmon, Harlee Thomason, and Braelyn Franklin had the other Cass base hits. Woods and York each drove in a run.


The loss drops Cass to 7-10 overall and 4-4 in Region 7-5A while Cartersville improved to 9-5-1 overall and 8-1 in the region.


Both teams will play tournament games this weekend in the Chattanooga Score International Invitational.



WOODLAND 9, DALTON 3


Cambrie Carrington had three hits Thursday including a home run, a double, and three RBIs.

The Lady Cats defeated visiting Dalton Thursday night in Region 7-AAAAA action, 9-3.


Woodland led 4-1 after two innings and was up 5-2 when they Wildcats posted four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Dalton added a run in the seventh but pitcher Ashlyn Dowdy got a groundout to end any further threat.


Ashlyn Baines (4 IP, 2ER, 6H, 2BB, 3K) was the winning pitcher for Woodland. Dowdy (3 IP, 1R, 0ER, 1H, 0BB, 1K) closed out the final three frames.


Peyton Dorn had four hits including a double and three RBIs to lead the Lady Cats’ offense. Cambrie Carrington produced three hits including one home run, a double, and three RBIs.


Kamryn Smith (RBI) and Jordan Hammonds had two hits each.


Bailey Sakacsi (double), Mackenzie Araya, and Alana Carnes (double) added one hit apiece. E Hartsfield was credited with one RBI.


The loss drops Dalton to 2-10 overall and 0-7 in Region 7-AAAAA.


Woodland (9-8, 5-4) will participate in the Chattanooga Score International Tournament this weekend.


COAHULLA CREEK 11, ADAIRSVILLE 2

Adairsville softball lost a region game at Coahulla Creek Thursday evening, 11-2.


The Colts led 11-0 through four innings. Adairsville added its runs in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run double by McKenzie Pullam.


Megan Gregory had the other Adairsville hit. It was also a double.


Gregory (3 IP, 5ER, 4H, 3BB, 2K) was tagged with the pitching loss. Jordan Clay (1 IP, 6R, 0ER, 4H, 0BB, 2K) also pitched.


Adairsville (6-9-1, 2-6) hosts Model in a non-region game Tuesday at 5 p.m.
