Local baseball and softball teams advance in GRPA District Five tournaments

2022 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 5 Tournament capsules for baseball and softball teams representing the Parks and Recreation Departments of Bartow County and Cartersville.

Adairsville 8U and Cartersville Purple 8U have advanced to the final three teams heading into Monday night’s action.

Adairsville defeated Rockmart #2 Friday night 24-1 and beat Calhoun Saturday, 15-10. Cartersville Purple has a 16-1 win over Dalton Red, a 7-6 victory over Rockmart, and a 15-13 win over Rome #2.

The two local teams will square off Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Westside Park with the winner moving into the championship round of the 15-team tournament. The loser will need to survive an additional elimination game and then defeat Tuesday’s winner twice in the finals of the double-elimination tournament.

In other tournament action, 8U Bartow Blue remains in contention in the loser’s bracket while 8U Cartersville Gold was eliminated after two straight losses.

8U ADAIRSVILLE 15, CALHOUN 10

Camden Forsyth had three hits for Adairsville including a double. Ethan Massey, Hank Earwood, Titus Childers, and Landry Elrod contributed two hits each. Cash Miller had a double with Cole Baker, Cooper Adcock, Jake Nida, and Sam Williams adding one hit apiece.

8U ADAIRSVILLE 12, DALTON BLACK 4

Cole Baxter led the Adairsville attack with two hits including a double. Titus Childers finished with a pair of hits and Jake Nida added one.

8U CARTERSVILLE PURPLE 16, DALTON RED 1

Cartersville’s Will Gelhauser had three hits including one home run and three RBIs. Evan Blakenberger had three hits, one homer, and two RBIs and Jaxon Martin also finished with three hits. Jett Owen contributed two hits and two RBIs. Gray Womack had two hits including one triple and two RBIs. Raden Sullins tossed in a pair of hits with two RBIs while Abraham Maeger (RBI), Nolan Murphy (double, two RBIs), Carson Rensch (RBI), Hollis Nelson, and Will Porter added one hit each.

8U CARTERSVILLE PURPLE 7, ROCKMART 6

Will Gelhauser, Gray Womack, and Evan Blakenberger had three hits each to pace Cartersville. Gelhauser’s hits included one double and three RBIs. Womack also had a double and one RBI. Jaxon Martin (RBI), Nolan Murphy (RBI), Hollis Nelson (RBI), Abraham Maeger, and Raden Sullins contributed one hit apiece.

8U CARTERSVILLE PURPLE 15, ROME #2 13

Gray Womack and Will Gelhauser led the Purple offense with three hits including one home run each. The two combined for seven RBIs. Jett Owen (2 RBIs) and Carson Rensch also totaled three hits in the win. Jaxon Martin followed with two hits including one double with one RBI. Evan Blakenberger and Nolan Murphy contributed one double and one RBI each. Hollis Nelson (RBI), Will Porter (RBI), Abraham Maeger, and Raden Sullins added one hit apiece.

8U BARTOW BLUE 15, DALTON RED 3

After falling to Rockmart 16-8 in their tournament opener, 8U Bartow Blue staved off a pair of elimination games Saturday defeating Dalton Red 15-3 and Whitfield County 15-7.

Gage Mulkey, Alex Wofford, Asher Lanter, Gatlin Townsend, Everett Sutton, Logan Johnson, Mason Chastain, and Elijah Thompson all had two hits each in the win over Dalton. Karsen Anderson, Carson Williams, and Bentley Lowe added one hit each.

8U BARTOW BLUE 15, WHITFIELD COUNTY 7

Bartow Blue 8U defeated Whitfield to win its second elimination game Saturday and advance to another elimination game Monday night against Calhoun.

Everett Sutton led the Bartow attack with three hits including one double. Karsen Anderson was next with one home run and one double. Asher Lanter, Logan Johnson, Elijah Thompson, Carson Williams, and Anderson Bufford followed with two hits each. Gatlin Townsend contributed one home run. Gage Mulkey, Alex Wofford, and Mason Chastain tossed in one hit apiece.

DALTON BLACK 23, 8U CARTERSVILLE GOLD 13

Noah Taylor led 8U Cartersville Gold with three hits including one double and two RBIs. Shep Sadler (double), Tripp Walker (RBI), Josh Villareal, Jaxon Tardy (double, three RBIs), Wheeler Arthur (RBI), Caleb Cox (double, two RBIs), McClain Cook, and Alex Swearingen (triple, RBI) all contributed two hits each. Caswell McFarland added a triple and two RBIs.

ROCKMART 14, 8U CARTERSVILLE GOLD 6

Shep Sadler led the Cartersville Gold offense with two hits including a double. Tripp Walker (RBI), Jaxon Tardy (RBI), Wheeler Arthur, and Carter Koon added one hit each.

10U CARTERSVILLE GOLD ADVANCES TO FINAL THREE IN GRPA DISTRICT 5 TOURNEY

The Cartersville 10U Gold team went 2-1 over the weekend to reach Monday’s semifinal round at Rollins Park in Dalton.

10U Cartersville Gold defeated Dalton 14-7 Friday night and topped Cedartown Saturday 10-8 before falling to Rome Saturday, 17-7.

Caretersville Gold squares off with Summerville Monday night in an elimination game with the winner advancing to the double-elimination tournament’s championship round. The Cartersville Gold/Summerville winner will need to defeat Rome twice on Tuesday.

10U CARTERSVILLE GOLD 14, DALTON 7

The Cartersville Gold offense was paced by Liam Turner’s three hits with two RBIs. Luke Allan totaled two hits with two RBIs. Henry Scofield also had two hits including one triple. Benny Powell (triple), Tate Warlick (double, RBI), Micah Tatum, and Will Fultz (RBI) contributed one hit each.

Allan (2.2 IP, 3R, 0ER, 5BB, 7K) and Scofield (1.1 IP, 4R, 3ER, 2H, 2BB, 3K) split the Cartersville Gold pitching duties.

10U CARTERSVILLE GOLD 10, CEDARTOWN 8

Henry Scofield and Liam Turner (double, RBI) led the Cartersville Gold attack with two hits each. Carter Harris (RBI), Benny Powell (double, RBI), Micah Tatum (RBI), and Luke Allan (RBI) added one hit apiece.

Will Fultz (0.2 IP, 1ER, 1H, 4BB, 1K), Scofield (1.2 IP, 5ER, 5H, 3BB, 1K), and Tatum (2.2 IP, 1R, 0ER, 0H, 2BB, 3K) shared the pitching duties.

ROME 17, 10U CARTERSVILLE GOLD 7

Liam Turner had two hits and one RBI in Cartersville’s loss. Henry Scofield, Micah Tatum, and Luke Allan tossed in one hit each. Harris Emory had one RBI.

Cartersville Gold utilized a quartet of pitchers including: Will Fultz (0.0 IP, 4ER, 1H, 2BB), Jaxson Boomer (1.1 IP, 5R, 4ER, 0H, 4BB, 2K), Benny Powell (0.0 IP, 2ER, 0H, 3BB), and Liam Turner (1.2 IP, 5R, 4ER, 2H, 3BB, 1K).

12U BARTOW COUNTY ADVANCES TO GRPA DISTRICT 5 CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

Bartow County 12U has advanced to the championship round of the GRPA District 5 baseball tournament at Rollins Park in Dalton with wins over Rome, Whitfield County, and Cartersville. Bartow needs one win Tuesday against Monday’s Cartersville/Rome/Gordon County survivor to take the district title in the double-elimination tournament.

Cartersville Gold 12U plays the Rome/Gordon County winner Monday night.

12U BARTOW 5, 12U CARTERSVILLE GOLD 3

Bartow’s 12U team defeated Cartersville Saturday to advance to the championship round of the District 5 Tournament without a loss.

Alfredo Romo paced the Bartow offense with three hits including one triple and four RBIs. Dawson Warner (double) and Landon Farmer followed with two hits each. Mason Dobbs (RBI), Joseph Kirby, Lucas Andrews, and Bryson Weaver added one hit apiece.

Jace Radford (2 IP, 3ER, 6H, 0BB, 1K) and Romo (4 IP, 0R, 1H, 2BB, 6K) split the Bartow pitching duties.

Luke Thomson (2 RBIs), Easton Lee (RBI), and Caiden Cline (double) finished with two hits each for Cartersville. Corbin Mullinax added one triple.

Thomson (3 IP, 2ER, 6H, 0BB, 5K) and Mullinax (3 IP, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) pitched three innings each for Cartersville Gold.

12U CARTERSVILLE GOLD 11, GORDON COUNTY 2

Luke Thomson (double, RBI) and Asher Sito (RBI) had two hits each for Cartersville. Easton Lee, Caiden Cline (RBI), and Corbin Mullinax finished with one hit each. Darren Cole and Maddox Wilson added one RBI apiece.

Thomson (2.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 7K), Steven Tumlin (1.1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB, 2K), and Lee (1 IP, 0R, 1H) pitched for Cartersville in the win.

12U CARTERSVILLE GOLD 14, SUMMERVILLE 5

Darren Cole (triple, three RBIs), Caiden Cline (RBI), and Asher Sito (double, two RBIs) paced the Cartersville Gold offense with two hits apiece. Joel Rensch (double, RBI), Jackson Vaughan (RBI), Andy Holstein (RBI), and Easton Lee had one hit each.

Cline (0.2 IP, 4ER, 1H, 4BB, 2K), Lee (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 7K), and Andy Holstein (1.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 4BB, 1K) all pitched for Cartersville Gold.
