Local high school track and field teams compete at four meets

March 17, 2024


The Woodland boys finished fourth and the Lady Cats were sixth on Saturday at the Rome Track and Field Invitational. The Rome girls and boys teams won the event with the Creekview girls and boys teams placing second.


Top performances for Woodland:

Aliya Strachan won the 100m dash with a 12.83 mark. Ja’zavia Bryan was 5th in 13.05.

Olivia Berry was second and Addison Brown was fourth in the 3200m run.

Maloni Rodriguez placed fifth in the 100m hurdles in 18.80 seconds.

The Woodland girls' 4x100 meter relay team was fourth

The 4x400 meter relay team was 2nd in 4:32.05

Jamarion Walker 4th (51.56) in the 400m Dash

Andy Forsyth 2nd (2:02.75) in the 800m Run

Landon McSwain won the 3200m Run in 9:54.36

McSwain was 2nd and Andy Forsyth was 3rd in the 1600m Run

Zachary Wiggins won the 300m Hurdles in 40.20

The Wildcats 200m, 400m, and 800m relay teams placed 3rd and 4th.

Jaylin Benham was 3rd in the high jump clearing 5-6

Jamarion Walker was 3rd in the long jump and 4th in the triple jump

Heath Tatum cleared 11 feet and was 3rd in the pole vault



CASS COMPETES AT THE WARRIOR INVITATIONAL


The Cass boys finished seventh and the Lady Colonels were eighth on Saturday at the 12-team Mohawk-Warrior Invitational hosted by Gordon Central High School in Calhoun. The meet was won by the Model boys and the Kennesaw Mountain girls. Calhoun finished second in the girls' and boys' competitions.


Top performances for Cass:

Kaitlyn Godwin won the 100m dash (12.25); the 200m dash (25.81); and the 400m (59.11)

The Lady Colonels 4x100m relay team finished 2nd

KK Evans was fourth in the high jump

Ian Williams placed 5th in the 200m dash 

Critton Gearhart was 3rd in the 800m run and 1600m run

Leonardo Galeana was 4th in the 3200m run

The Colonels 4x100m relay team placed third and the 4x200m relay team was 5th



CARTERSVILLE HOSTS MIDWEEK MEET


Last Thursday (March 14) Cartersville hosted six other teams at Weinman Stadium.

Top performances for Cass:

Kaitlyn Godwin won the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes.

The Lady Colonels’ 4x100m relay team was 1st

KK Evans won the high jump with a 5-1 mark

Nyliah Woods won the long jump with a 15-3.25 mark and was 2nd in the triple jump

Kiana McDaniel won the shot put

The Cass boys 4x800m relay team was 2nd 

Critton Gearhart was 2nd in the 800m run


Top performances for Cartersville:

Vivi Vest won the 800m run just ahead of teammate Kylie Ham in 2:33

Leyla Booth won the 300m hurdles with three teammates taking the next three spots

The Lady Canes 4x400m relay team won

Amira Davis was 2nd in the high jump

Taff Bradley won the Discuss Throw with an 89-9 mark

Stephen Rowser won the 200m dash in 22.32… Khristian Lando was 2nd at 22.81

Kemarie Mitchell won the 400m dash in 51.24

Barrett Stepp won the 800m run in 2:06.15

Malachi Vosburgh won the 1600m run in 4:40.77

Monterius Tolbert won the high jump, clearing 6-2

Caleb Cooley was 2nd in the 100m dash in 11.44

Micah Sanders took 2nd in the 3200m run

Jackson Montgomery was 2nd in the triple jump

The Hurricanes’ 4x400m relay team won in 3:30.97 and their 4x100m relay finished 2nd



TIGERS WIN AT COAHULLA CREEK MEET


The Adairsville track and field teams beat four other teams last Tuesday (March 12) in a five-way meet at Coahulla Creek in Whitfield County. The boys finished 19-½ points ahead of Northwest Whitfield. The girls finished 15 points ahead of the Lady Bruins. The other competing teams included Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, Gordon Lee, and the host Colts.


Top performances for the Adairsville girls:

Callie Viktora won the 1600m run with Sadie Abernathy placing second

Aliya McBryde was second in the girls' 100m dash and second in the high jump

Sadie Abernathy placed second in the 800 m run

Ella Bailey was second in the 100m and 300m Hurdles; and also second in the long jump

Nicole Perez was runner-up in the shot put with a 32-08-½ mark and a second in the discus throw with a 103-7-½ mark


Top performances for the Adairsville boys:

Brayden Cochran won the 300m hurdles

Kenneth Wilkey won the high jump, clearing 6-feet

Noah Matthews and Charles Coleman finished first and second in the long jump

Matthews also won the triple jump

Westin Crisp was second in the 200m dash

Victor McQueen was second in the 110m hurdles

The Tigers’ 4x100m relay team — Kenneth Wilkey, Charles Coleman, Westin Crisp, and Noah Matthews — placed second

The Adairsville 4x800m relay team — Griffin Bozeman, Logan Franklin, Aaron Saunders, and Norman Poch — finished second



THIS WEEK IN TRACK AND FIELD 

Adairsville competes at Calhoun on Tuesday in a five-team meet.

Cartersville and Cass will run at Darlington on Wednesday in a five-team meet.

Cass and Woodland will run at the Dalton Invitational on Saturday.
