Local Little League Baseball teams in contention for Northwest Section titles

Four local Little League Baseball youth teams remain in contention for Georgia Little League Northwest Section titles entering double-elimination tournament action on Friday night in Peachtree City.
Cartersville Little League’s 7U coach-pitch, 8U Rookie Division, and 9U Sandlot Division teams are among the final three contenders remaining in their respective divisions. Bartow County Little League’s 7U coach-pitch team also remains in contention when tournament action continues on Friday night.
The championship round for each tournament will be on Saturday at Peachtree City Little League.
NORTHWEST SECTION 7U COACH-PITCH
The Cartersville 7U coach-pitch team has secured a spot in the championship round at Peachtree City Little League and needs just one win on Saturday to advance to the state tournament. Cartersville 7U defeated host Peachtree City on Wednesday, 15-14, and beat Smyrna Blue, 10-7, on Thursday to reach the finals against either Bartow County or Smyrna Blue.
Bartow County 7U opened the tournament with a 9-0 Tuesday win over Smyrna Red, but fell 14-3 to Smyrna Blue on Wednesday. Bartow 7U survived an elimination game on Thursday, defeating Smyrna Red 15-13, and will play another elimination game on Friday at 5:30 p.m. against Smyrna Blue. The winner of that elimination game will need two wins over Cartersville on Saturday to win the title.
Russell Pressley leads Cartersville 7U hitters through their first two games with six hits and five RBIs. JT Menerey (four RBIs) and Barrett Malik each have five hits. Hank Harrell (RBI) has four hits. Eli Fillers (five RBIs), Knox Ammons (three RBIs), Tanner Stephens (three RBIs), Myles Banks, and Sawyer Arnold have contributed three hits each. Owen Baxter (three RBIs) has added two hits.
In Bartow 7U’s three games, Evan Jacobs has seven hits with five RBIs. Chase McCoy (four RBIs) and Rodrigo Catala (three RBIs) both have six hits. Baylor Coker (three RBIs) and Owen Forsyth (RBI) provided five hits. Jameson Reynolds (three RBIs), Bo Hamby (two RBIs), and Britton Morrow (RBI) each produced four hits. Will Saterfield (two RBIs) and Grayson Cagle (RBI) contributed three hits, while Brynlee Rogers (RBI) and Beckett Best each added two.
NORTHWEST SECTION 8U ROOKIE DIVISION
Cartersville Little League’s 8U Rookie Division team split its first two games, defeating Peachtree City on Tuesday 17-5 before falling 13-12 to Smyrna Blue on Thursday. Cartersville 8U slipped to an elimination round game against Rockmart on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The survivor will need two wins over Smyrna Blue on Saturday in the championship round.
In their first two games, Toccoa White led the Cartersville 8U team with three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs. Beckham Mackey, with three RBIs, and Jackson Walker, with an RBI, each had two hits. Sawyer Crowe (three RBIs), Owen Hunnicutt (two RBIs), Gibbs Thomas (RBI), Brantley Bonner (RBI), Beau Bamforth (RBI), James Gregory (triple), and Jacob Sadler each had one hit. Lennox Kellogg drove in one run.
On the mound for Cartersville 8U, Mackey (2 IP, 3ER, 1BB, 4K) and Hunnicutt (1.2 IP, 2ER, 2K) pitched in both games. Bonner (1.2 IP, 0ER, 2K) and White (1.1 IP, 2ER, 2K) also saw action on the bump.
NORTHWEST SECTION 9U SANDLOT DIVISION
Cartersville Little League’s 9U Sandlot Division team lost its opening game 5-0 to Peachtree City on Tuesday, but responded with a 14-5 win over Bartow County on Wednesday and a 12-6 victory over Smyrna Red on Thursday to play in another elimination game against Peachtree City on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The Cartersville/Peachtree City winner will advance to Saturday’s championship round against Smyrna Blue and will need two wins to advance to the state tournament.
Bartow 9U dropped two straight games, falling 11-8 to Smyrna Red on Tuesday and losing to Cartersville on Wednesday.
In three games for Cartersville 9U, Corbin Ferguson has five hits, including one double and two RBIs. AJ Jones has four hits and six RBIs. Max Brown (four RBIs), Easton Fillers (two doubles, two RBIs), Brooks Caverly (double, RBI), Logan Sullins (RBI), Beckham Bowden, and Nolan Menerey each contributed three hits. Brooks Poole (two RBIs) and Colton Hamby have two hits. Baylor Foster (two RBIs) and Jackson Miller (RBI) added one hit apiece.
Brown (five strikeouts) and Fillers (one strikeout) have each pitched 3-2/3 innings for Cartersville 9U through the first three games. Hamby has worked 2-1/3 innings with four strikeouts and no earned runs. Sullins has completed two innings on the mound, and Jones has worked 1-1/3 scoreless innings.
Grayson Neighbors led the Bartow 9U offense in their two losses with three hits, including one double, one triple, and two RBIs. Tate Deams (double, two RBIs) and Mayz Janisch (RBI) contributed two hits. Lawton Elrod (RBI), Hoke Hamby (RBI), and Steel Hooper (RBI) added one hit. Gunner Lindsay had one RBI.
