Local softball teams collect Region 7-5A wins

All three local high school softball teams in action came away with Region 7-5A victories on Tuesday night. Cass topped Cedartown 10-6, Woodland edged Dalton 3-2, and Cartersville defeated Allatoona 9-6.

CASS 10, CEDARTOWN 6

The Lady Colonels totaled eight runs in the third through the fifth innings on Tuesday night to break open a 2-2 game and defeat visiting Cedartown, 10-6.  Cass outhit the Bulldogs twelve to eight and held off Cedartown in the late innings.

Kylie Gentry earned the pitching win for the Colonels. She scattered eight hits and one walk in seven innings in the circle. Only three Cedartown runs were earned, and Gentry fanned five.

Shyia Woods (double, two RBI), Maci Walker (double, two RBI), Gentry (RBI), and MJ McFarlane each had two hits. Lindsey Chubb (double, RBI), Rilyn Caspari (RBI), Addy Bauder (sac fly, RBI), and Kharmyn Collum each added one hit.

Cass (2-3) visits Woodland on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.

WOODLAND 3, DALTON 2

Woodland pitcher Evelyne Tucker tossed a complete game six-hitter on Tuesday and struck out four to edge the visiting Dalton Lady Catamounts, 3-2.  Tucker issued no walks, and only one run was earned.

Gracie Korb (triple, RBI), Charlotte Petersen (RBI), Bailey Ryan, and Bella Kuykendall each had one hit for the Wildcats.

Woodland (1-2) hosts Cass on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.

CARTERSVILLE 9, ALLATOONA 6

The Lady Canes stayed unbeaten by scoring nine runs in the first two frames Tuesday evening en route to a 9-6 home win over the Allatoona Lady Buccaneers.

Presley Crabbe (4 IP, 5R, 2ER, 7H, 1BB, 8K) struck out eight and picked up the pitching victory by working four innings. Zoie Shiflett (3 IP, 1H, 2BB, 4K) pitched three innings for the Hurricanes.

Sam Porter (double, two RBI) led the Cartersville offense with three hits. Kennedy Crenshaw followed with two hits, including a home run and a double with three RBIs. Allana Williams (double, two RBI), Shiflett (RBI), Carder Brock (RBI), and Izzy Tummins each added one hit.

Cartersville (6-0) hosts North Cobb on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and travels to Harrison on Thursday for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
