Local swim teams compete at NWGA Regional; Woodland adds state qualifiers

The swim teams from all four local high schools sent competitors to the 22-team Northwest Georgia High School Swim and Dive Championships this past Friday and Saturday at Calhoun High School.


Adairsville placed sixth overall; Woodland was eighth; Cartersville 13th; and Cass 19th in the team scoring. The meet was won by Calhoun, who finished ahead of Dalton, Jefferson, North Paulding, and Mary Persons rounding out the top five. Top local finishers included Woodland's Grayson Moore who earned a second-place result in the boys' 50-yard freestyle. The Cartersville girls' 200-yard freestyle relay team -- consisting of Layne Callan, Lainey Saunders, Kat Conley, and Margherita Miniati finished third. Miniati was also fifth in the girls' 50-yard freestyle. Additionally, the Woodland boys' 200-yard freestyle relay team placed sixth but qualified for the state meet with their time. The team consists of Jack Webb, Isaac Muriel, Isaiah Muriel, and Grayson Moore.
