Monday's baseball roundup: Canes power past Forsyth Central, Woodland blanks Gordon Central

UGA commit, Caleb Daniel, drove in two runs with a triple in the second inning and added a three-run homer in the sixth to help lift the Purple Hurricanes to a 9-7 win Monday afternoon over Forsyth Central.
Cartersville led 6-4 after just two innings and the Bulldogs led 7-6 through five. The Canes regained the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth on Daniel’s homer.
Tristan McKibben (RBI), Cameron Cochran (RBI), and Julez Pratt also had two hits for the Hurricanes. Landon Cole (RBI) and Andrew Purdy (double) added one hit each.
Logan Shrewsbury (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K) picked up the pitching win in relief of Nate Russell (2 IP, 4R, 2ER, 3H, 5BB, 4K) and Dawson Bishop (2 IP, 3ER, 3H, 2BB, 2K). Purdy (1 IP, 0R, 0H) closed out the seventh inning for a save.
The loss dropped Forsyth Central to 1-4 on the season.
Cartersville (3-0) plays at Alexander on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
WOODLAND 18, GORDON CENTRAL 0
The Wildcats scored 18 runs in the first two innings and closed out the run-rule decision in the third on Monday to blank visiting Gordon Central, 18-0.
Logan Bentley (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 4BB, 4K) and Lucas Baker (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K) combined on the mound for a three-inning, one-hitter.
Bentley (double, three RBIs) and Jake Clowers (double, two RBIs) had two hits each for the Wildcats. Baker (RBI), Ayden Ray (double, RBI), Luke Evans (double), JD Trail (double, two RBIs), and Joshua Hicks (RBI) added one hit each.
The loss leaves Gordon Central with a 0-2 mark.
Woodland (2-1) plays North Atlanta on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Pickens Mountain Classic.
NORCROSS 5, CASS 4
Norcross pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday then held off the Colonels in their final frame for a 5-4 win.
Cass had two hits in their half of the seventh and had base runners at second and third base with no outs but failed to get the tying run home.
Jesiel Moctezuma homered and doubled with two RBIs, but also suffered the pitching loss in relief of starter Hunter Lovett (4 IP, 3ER, 4H, 7K). Moctezuma (1.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 3H, 3BB, 1K) worked into the sixth inning. JP Heater (0.1 IP, 1K) retired the final out in the sixth.
Chase Tatum had two hits and one RBI for Cass. Nic Wright (RBI), Cayden Roberts, and Connor Jenkins added one hit each for the Colonels.
Eric Wilburn and Drew Rockecharlie combined for four hits and three RBIs for the Blue Devils (3-0).
Cass (2-2) plays St. Francis on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Pickens Mountain Classic.
PEPPERELL 5, ADAIRSVILLE 2
The host Pepperell Dragons scored four runs in the fourth inning on Monday and held off a late rally by Adairsville to win 5-2.
The Tigers scored twice in the sixth inning to narrow their deficit to 4-2, but the Dragons added an insurance run in the next frame.
Jack Nelson (4 IP, 4R, 2ER, 4H, 2BB, 6K) took the pitching loss for Adairsville. Ryan Farr (0.1 IP, 3BB), McCayden Hufstetler (1.1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 0H, 3BB, 1K), and Dawson Craig (0.1 IP) also pitched for the Tigers.
Harrison Cole, Jarrett Scott, and Nelson had one hit each for Adairsville.
Pepperell improved to 5-0.
Adairsville (0-1) hosts White County on Friday at 5:55 p.m. and has a Saturday doubleheader at home with Darlington starting at 11 a.m.
