Monday softball: Lady Colonels blank Woodland, and Gilmer edges Adairsville with a walk-off homer

Cass pitcher Kylie Gentry threw a five-inning, one-hitter Monday evening to lead the Lady Colonels to a 10-0 shutout of visiting Woodland.


Gentry struck out five and walked two. She needed only 74 pitches in the victory.


The lone Woodland hit was an infield single by Bailey Ryan in the top of the first inning.


Cass led 1-0 after one inning and 3-0 after three innings.  The Lady Colonels burst the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth inning, taking advantage of five hits, two walks, and two Woodland errors for seven runs.


Emma Gibson paced the Cass offense with three hits and one RBI. Lindsey Chubb (double, three RBI) and Shyia Woods had two hits. Autumn Smith (RBI), Natalie Hughes (RBI), Bailey York, and Gentry added one hit.


The loss dropped Woodland to 6-9 overall and 4-7 in Region 7-4A. The Lady Cats play at Cedartown on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and host Adairsville in a non-region game Saturday at 10 a.m.


Cass improved to 14-4 overall and 12-2 in region play. The Lady Colonels play at Cartersville on Thursday at 6 p.m.





GILMER 4, ADAIRSVILLE 2


The Lady Tigers led host Gilmer 2-0 in the early innings Monday, but Gilmer hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second, plated a single run in the fourth, and won the game with a walk-off, two-run homer by Jaylee McDaniel in the bottom of the seventh.


Adairsville matched the Bobcats with ten total hits in the contest. 


Ashlyn Carlton (RBI) and Chloe Hill (double) had two hits for the Lady Tigers. Ashlynn Durden (RBI), Alivia Joslin, Maddie Baggett, Ansley Powell, Lily Roberts, and Cadey Evans each contributed one hit.


Carlton (6.2 IP, 4ER, 10H, 0BB, 5K) suffered the pitching loss for Adairsville.


Gilmer improved to 13-9 overall and 5-5 in Region 7-3A.


Adairsville (10-10, 3-8) hosts Gordon Central on Wednesday at 5:55 p.m. and visits Woodland for a 10 a.m. non-region game on Saturday.
