Nails, Gentry spark Cass to victory over Calhoun

After three scoreless innings and a brief 1-0 lead for Calhoun in the middle of the fourth inning on Saturday at the Cass Athletic Complex, the Lady Colonels scored nine unanswered runs to beat the Yellow Jackets 9-1 in six innings.

Abagail Nails pitched four innings for the Lady Colonels, allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out 11. Kylie Gentry earned the win with two shutout innings of relief, scattering two hits and two walks while striking out four.

The Lady Colonels tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, then scored four runs in each of the next two frames to close out the win.

Nails and Gentry also led Cass at the plate with three hits apiece. Nails’ hits included a triple. Gentry’s hits included a double and three RBI. Rilyn Caspari (two RBI) and Addy Bauder (RBI) each contributed two hits. Kharmyn Collum (RBI) and Natalie Hughes added one hit each. Lindsey Chubb drove in one run.

The loss dropped Calhoun to 7-11.

Cass (12-7, 8-5 Region 7-5A) will visit Allatoona for a region game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
