The Adairsville Lady Tigers defeated the visiting Cartersville Lady Canes 3-2 Tuesday evening at Adairsville High School, renewing a dormant girls' soccer rivalry after a 10-year hiatus.
Cartersville controlled much of the early action, but Adairsville gradually settled into the match and struck first in the 22nd minute when Alexa Damer finished an assist from Addi Jerauld. Just five minutes later, Braylynn Martin extended the lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute off a feed from Alivia Joslin.
The Lady Tigers carried that 2-0 advantage into halftime.
Adairsville came out strong after the break, with Joslin pushing the score to 3-0 in the 45th minute on an assist from Martin. Cartersville responded with a pair of second-half goals but could not complete the comeback. Ali Evans scored in the 55th minute, assisted by Mallory Nicklas, and Scout Hullander added the second goal in the 75th minute, also set up by Nicklas.
The loss dropped Cartersville to 10-6 on the season. The Lady Canes will wrap up the regular season with a final tuneup when they host North Paulding on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Adairsville improved to 14-2 and will play at North Murray on Wednesday in its final match before the state playoffs.
