Saturday girls high school hoops results

The three local high school girls basketball teams in action Saturday all dropped region contests. Cartersville fell at Class AAAA 10th-ranked Central-Carroll, Woodland lost at Class AAAAA 3rd-ranked Villa Rica, and Adairsville lost at home to Murray County. CENTRAL-CARROLL 47, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 35

Janae Jackson scored 18 points and Myah Houston contributed 14 for the host Lady Lions as Central-Carroll defeated Cartersville 47-35 Saturday in Region 5-AAAA action. Central led 16-8 after one quarter, 20-18 at halftime, and 35-29 through three quarters on their way to a 12-point win. Kiera Milline (photo by Randy Parker, The Daily Tribune News) scored eight points for the Lady Canes. Ariana Cochran, Naijah Evans, and Lehla Thomas tossed in six apiece. The Lady Lions improved to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in region play. Cartersville (7-7, 0-2) plays at LaGrange Tuesday at 6 p.m. before hosting Sandy Creek Friday and Chapel Hill Saturday in 6 p.m. starts at The Storm Center. VILLA RICA 58, WOODLAND GIRLS 39 Class AAAAA third-ranked Villa Rica raced out the gate Saturday to a 20-4 first quarter lead and led 35-13 by halftime on their way to a 19-point Region 7-AAAAA win. Dekyia Cofield scored 12 of her game-high 18 points for Villa Rica (15-2, 6-2) in the first quarter. Kyndal Coleman followed with nine points for the hosting Wildcats. Woodland — the visiting Wildcats Saturday — got 12 points from Carli Clymer, eight from Jordan Thompson, and seven from Gracie Styles in their loss. The Lady Cats (3-12, 1-6) host East Paulding Tuesday and Rome Friday. Both games are 6 p.m. starts. Tuesday night, Woodland is offering $1 admission to anyone wearing Woodland apparel. MURRAY COUNTY 69, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 32 Murray County led at each quarter stop and pulled away late for a 69-32 win Saturday at Adairsville. The visiting Lady Indians led 29-15 after one quarter, 42-23 at the intermission, and 62-26 through three quarters. Murray County (6-10, 3-5) was led by Mattie Nuckolls with 21 points. Kerra Lowe scored 17 and Natalie O’Neal added nine for the Indians. Haley Stiles was the top scorer for Adairsville with 12 points. The Lady Tigers (5-11, 2-6) travel to Ringgold Tuesday night for a 6 p.m. start.
