Shiflett, Lady Canes blank Woodland; Lady Colonels pick up a region win
Cartersville’s Zoie Shiflett homered twice and pitched a four-inning shutout Tuesday night to help lead the Lady Canes to a 12-0 shutout win at 7th-ranked Woodland.
Shiflett homered in the second inning for a 2-0 lead and added a three-run blast in the fourth inning that gave the Hurricanes a 12-0 advantage.
Jordan Bishop also homered for Cartersville — a two-run shot in the third inning.
Shiflett, who scattered five hits from the pitching circle and did not issue a walk, finished the game with three hits (double, two homers, seven RBIs). Reese Dumas (double, RBI) and Erin McCrary followed with two hits each. Addi Burns (RBI), Kennedy Crenshaw, and Layne Callan had one hit each. Allana Williams added one RBI.
Alana Carnes led Woodland with two hits. Elizabeth Hartsfield, Mackenzie Araya, and Ashlyn Baines added one hit apiece.
Peyton Dorn (4 IP, 12R, 11ER, 11H, 1BB, 2K) was tagged with the pitching loss for the Lady Cats.
Woodland (18-9, 9-5) has a non-region game at Chattooga on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Cartersville (16-7, 11-2) hosts a non-region game with Sonoraville Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Both teams have secured state playoff berths.
CASS 17, HIRAM 1
The Lady Colonels peppered 13 hits and took advantage of ten errors Tuesday night as they coasted to a 17-1 win at Hiram.
Emma Gibson (4 IP, 1R, 0ER, 3H, 2K, 0BB) picked up the pitching win for Cass.
Darianna Sosa led the offense with three hits and one RBI. Braelyn Franklin, Bailey York (double, three RBIs), and Cayce Brown (triple, two RBIs) followed with two hits each. Reese Howard (double, two RBIs), Harlee Thomason (three RBIs), KK Evans (double, two RBIs), and Payton Mize (RBI) added one hit apiece.
The loss dropped Hiram to 8-14 on the season and 1-12 in Region 7-5A.
Cass (9-15, 3-10) hosts Cartersville Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
LAKEVIEW-FORT OGLETHORPE 10, ADAIRSVILLE 0
The Adairsville Tigers were shut out by visiting Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Tuesday night, 10-0.
The Warriors led 8-0 through just three innings and added two more in the top of the fifth. Meanwhile, LFO pitchers Lakely Parish (4 IP, 0R, 1H, 2BB, 5K) and Britni Newbille (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) kept Adairsville off the scoreboard.
Riley Mounger had the only Tigers’ base hit and she stole two bases.
Jordan Clay (1.1 IP, 7ER, 5H, 2BB) suffered the pitching loss. Madison Baker (3.2 IP, 3R, 2ER, 3H, 3BB, 1K) also pitched for Adairsville.
Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe improved to 6-13 on the season and 3-9 in Region 6-AAA.
Adairsville (6-15, 3-9) hosts Gordon Lee Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
WOODLAND 12, DALTON 4
On Monday, Woodland softball beat visiting Dalton 12-4.
Alana Carnes had four hits and two RBIs to pace the Lady Cats’ offense. Elizabeth Hartsfield followed with three hits — all doubles — and three RBIs.
Ashlyn Baines (4.2 IP, 4R, 2ER, 8H, 2BB, 6K) picked up the pitching victory. Peyton Dorn (1.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 1K) also pitched for Woodland.
