Short-handed Canes suffer trio of losses


The Cartersville High wrestling team suffered three losses Friday night at the Adairsville Quad Meet. The Canes lost to Rockmart 54-24, Adairsville 58-22, and North Paulding 51-22.

Each of the four teams participating were short-handed due to some COVID quarantine protocols and Cartersville coach Brooks Gayton explained that his team is still missing some of the bigger guys who will join the team after football.

In the loss the Rockmart, Lee Camp (106), Brady Jenkins (152), and Lyle Forristall (160) each picked up wins by pin. Against Adairsville, Eaiden Neal (113) earned a major decision win. Camp (106) and Jamie Altuzar (285) collected victories for the Canes by pin. Adairsville wrestlers with wins on the mat over Cartersville included Isaac Linley (132), Adam Martin (138), Brett Lance (152), and Westin Porter (170) by pin fall. The Tigers’ Dalton Cornett (160) won by technical fall.

In Cartersville’s loss to North Paulding, Jenkins (152) had a major decision victory and Forristall (160) won by pin.

The Hurricanes are scheduled to compete next when they host the Colonel Harvey Robinson Duals at The Storm Center Wednesday, December 23.
