Softball Chargers even season record with fifth consecutive win


Freshman Izzy Marcotte went 4-for-4 including a double, two home runs, three RBIs, and three runs scored Saturday as Georgia Highlands cruised past Mercyhurst North East CC (Pa.).

The Georgia Highlands softball team won its third straight game at the Clermont, Florida Spring Games Saturday by powering past Mercyhurst North East Community College (Pa.), 16-2. The Chargers scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, but pulled away in the third with an eight-run frame before plating six more runs in the fourth inning. Georgia Highlands pounded out 18 hits including five home runs in their five offensive frames.


Montana Ledbetter (5 IP, 2ER, 4H, 0BB, 5K) earned the pitching victory for the Chargers with a complete game.


Deyonce Lewis, Izzy Marcotte, Taryn Hitchcock, and Mallory Alford combined for 13 hits and 11 RBIs to power the Georgia Highlands’ offense. Marcotte hit a pair of home runs. Lewis, Haley Robinson, and Madeline Hairston also homered for the Chargers.


GHC (10-10) has now won five in a row. The Chargers wrap up their Florida trip Sunday with games against Alpena CC (Mich.) and Cuyahoga CC (Ohio).
