Softball: Lady Tigers rally for walk-off win Tuesday, Lady Canes earn region win at Hiram on Monday

September 26, 2023 The host Lady Tigers won a back-and-forth tilt with Ridgeland Tuesday night, 9-8, and celebrated their 2023 seniors on the evening.


Adairsville led 1-0 early, tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning, and trailed the rest of the way until scoring four times in the bottom of the seventh for a dramatic come-from-behind win.


Chelsea Bates (1.2 IP, 2ER, 1H, 4BB, 2K), Ashlyn Carlton (3.1 IP, 3ER, 6H, 2BB), Madison Baker (0.2 IP, 3ER, 4H, 0BB, 1K), and Jordan Clay (1.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB) shared the pitching duties for the Tigers with Clay picking up the win.


Bates (double, two RBIs), Taylor Evans (sac fly, three RBIs), and Taylor Frazier (double, two RBIs) paced the Tigers’ offense with two hits each. Gabi Becerra (double, two RBIs), Ashlynn Durden, Brie Patterson, Clay, and Carlton (double) added one hit each.



Adairsville celebrated their 2023 seniors Taylor Frazier, Gabi Becerra, Chelsea Bates, Mckenzie Pullum, and Alissa Winters during the evening.


The loss dropped Ridgeland to 7-10 on the season and 2-8 in Region 6-AAA.


Adairsville (6-13, 3-7) visits LaFayette for another region game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.



CALHOUN 9, WOODLAND 0


Mackenzie Araya had two hits for Woodland Tuesday in their loss to Calhoun.

The visiting 9th-ranked Calhoun Yellow Jackets posted runs in each of their final four offensive frames Tuesday night at 6th-ranked Woodland and blanked the Lady Cats in a Region 7-5A matchup, 9-0.


Peyton Dorn (6 IP, 9R, 7ER, 9H, 3BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for Woodland while opposing pitcher Avery Greeson tossed a four-hit shutout for Calhoun.


Mackenzie Araya had two hits for the Lady Cats. Alana Carnes and Ashlynn Baines added one hit apiece.


Calhoun (14-8-1, 11-1) stays in first place in the region standings.


Woodland (17-7, 8-4) has a non-region game at home Wednesday against Southeast Whitfield and will return to region play next Monday when the Lady Cats host Dalton.



DALTON 5, CASS 4


Harlee Thomason had two hits in the Colonels' loss Tuesday at Dalton.

Dalton won Tuesday night’s game over visiting Cass in dramatic fashion with a 5-4 walk-off victory.


The Lady Catamounts survived a pair of Cass comebacks to earn the region win.


Dalton led 3-0 through two innings but Cass scored three runs in the third inning to tie the score at 3-3. The Catamounts went back ahead in the sixth inning only to have Cass knot the score again in the top of the seventh.


Dalton then strung together four hits in the bottom of the seventh to escape with a win.


Lily Powell (5.1 IP, 2ER, 6H, 1BB, 4K) was tagged with the pitching loss for the Colonels in relief of starter Emily Gibson (1 IP, 3R, 1ER, 2H, 3BB, 1K).


Darianna Sosa had two hits for Cass including a triple, a home run, and two RBIs. Harlee Thomason (double) also finished with two hits. Reese Howard (two RBIs), Braelyn Franklin, Cayce Brown (double), and Bailey York each added a base hit.


Dalton improved to 6-10 overall and 4-7 in Region 7-5A.


Cass (7-15, 2-10) hosts Darlington Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in a non-region game. The Lady Colonels return to region action next Tuesday at Hiram.



CARTERSVILLE 13, HIRAM 0


Jordan Bishop

The Purple Hurricanes blanked region-foe HIram Monday night in Paulding County, 13-0.


Cartersville outhit the Hornets thirteen to one and cruised to the shutout victory.


Zoie Shiflett (4 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 6K) and Kennedy Stevens (1 IP, 0R, 0BB, 1K) shared the pitching duties for the Canes.


LaKaiya Banks (double, two RBIs), Jordan Bishop (double, RBI), and Allana Williams (two RBIs) had two hits each for Cartersville. Shiflett (RBI), Kennedy Crenshaw (RBI), Addi Burns, Jaycee Blackwell (RBI), Reese Dumas (RBI), Erin McCrary, and Taryn Bradley added one hit each.


Cartersville (13-7, 9-2) plays at Ridgeland Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in a non-region matchup and hosts Dalton in a region game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
