South Georgia State rallies late to even series with GHC

South Georgia State College baseball scored seven runs across the final three innings on Friday for a come-from-behind win at Georgia Highlands College, 10-7.


The Chargers led 6-2 through the first four innings and 6-3 heading to the seventh inning. The Hawks grabbed the lead in the top seventh, posting five runs for an 8-6 advantage. GHC narrowed the margin to 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh, but South Georgia State added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth to secure their win.


Heath Whitlock (1 IP, 3R, 0ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K) suffered the Chargers’ pitching loss in relief of starter Noah McMahon (6 IP, 5ER, 7H, 3BB, 6K). Braxton Wade (2 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1K) pitched the final two innings for GHC.


Cartersville High product Aidan Larkin hit a grand slam home run for Georgia Highlands in the fourth inning. Andrew Bishop homered in the first inning. Kenton Collier, Emiliano Dominguez, and Hayden Miller (double) each added one hit.


Georgia Highlands (31-9, 11-2) and South Georgia State (24-16, 6-6) have now split the first two games of their four-game series this week. The Chargers host a doubleheader with the Hawks on Saturday at 1 p.m.
