State softball playoffs: Schedule for opening round set for Woodland and Cass

Two local high school softball teams have qualified for the Class 5A state playoffs that begin Monday at higher-seed school sites.

Both local teams — Woodland and Cass — will square off in the opening round against opponents from Region 6-AAAAA.

The Woodland Wildcats (20-9, 2-seed) will host their best-of-three first round series with Lithia Springs (18-10, 3-seed). A doubleheader Monday at 5 and 7 p.m. will be followed by a third game at Woodland on Tuesday at 5 p.m. if needed. Cass (16-11, 3-seed) actually wraps up the regular season Thursday evening with a non-region game at Allatoona. Then the Colonels will hit the road for their best-of-three series at Chapel Hill (15-10, 2-seed). This series begins with a doubleheader Monday at 5 and 7 p.m. in Douglasville and will continue with a third game at Chapel Hill Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. if needed.
