Ten local wrestlers reach state finals


The Woodland Wildcats are well on their way to capturing both the state team duals and state traditional championships for the second year in a row following Friday’s semifinal matches. Woodland will send six individuals to state championship matches Saturday, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Macon Centreplex and the Wildcats lead Class AAAAA with 195 team points heading into the final day of consolations and title matches. Colton Bishop (126), Caleb Jones (132), Caden McCrary (138), Caleb Henson (145), Cole Cochran (160), and Jaxon Smith (170) will all wrestle in state championship matches. Three additional Wildcats will wrestle for third place Saturday — Easton Bishop (120), Bryce Collum (152), and Bryce Shedd (220). Beau Jernigan (285) will wrestle for fifth.

Cass is in seventh place in Class AAAAA heading into Saturday’s action. While the Colonels have only one finalist in Bryce Kresho (120); Eli Doolittle (113) will wrestle for third place while Tyler McKnight (126), Zach McKnight, Reed Davis (182), and Noah Hoffmeier (220) will each compete Saturday in a fifth place match.

Adairsville is in seventh place in Class AAA when Saturday’s wrestling begins. Angel Banda (113) and Dalton Cornett (160) have reached the finals with James Standridge (132) going for third place.

Cartersville is in 10th place through Friday night’s action in Class AAAA. Jabril Williams (160) is in the finals for the Canes. Tyler Earick (113) will compete for third place. Giles Turner (120) and Shadre Hurst (285) will wrestle in fifth place matches Saturday for Cartersville.
