Three local teams reach GRPA District 5 championship round with Monday night wins
2022 Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 5 Tournament capsules for baseball and softball teams representing the Parks and Recreation Departments of Bartow County and Cartersville.
12U Cartersville Gold defeated Gordon County 22-3 Monday night at Rollins Park in Dalton to advance to Tuesday’s GRPA District 5 Championship round against Bartow County. Cartersville enters the championship round needing two wins. Bartow enters the championship without a loss in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament.
In Monday’s victory, Caiden Cline finished with three hits including one double and three RBIs. Darren Cole also had three hits including a double with one RBI. Luke Thomson hit one home run, one double, and totaled five RBIs. Corbin Mullinax (two RBIs), Jackson Vaughan (RBI), Maddox Wilson (RBI), and Easton Lee contributed two hits each. Joel Rensch added one double with two RBIs.
Andy Holstein (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 3K) and Jackson Vaughan (2 IP, 3ER, 2H, 3BB, 5K) were the Cartersville pitchers in Monday’s victory.
8U BARTOW BLUE AND 10U CARTERSVILLE GOLD ELIMINATED AT DISTRICT 5 TOURNEY
The 8U Bartow Blue baseball team and the 10U Cartersville Gold baseball team were knocked out of their respective GRPA District 5 tournaments Monday night.
Bartow Blue 8U lost to Calhoun 29-13 and tied for 7th place in the 15-team tournament at Westside Park in Whitfield County.
Gage Mulkey led Bartow Blue with two hits in the Calhoun loss. Alex Wofford, Gatlin Townsend, Elijah Thompson, Bentley Lowe, and Anderson Bufford added one hit each.
10U Cartersville Gold was eliminated Monday night in a 10-0 loss to Summerville at Rollins Park in Dalton and finished third in the 2022 GRPA District 5 Tournament.
Micah Tatum (1 IP, 5R, 3ER, 2H, 4BB, 3K), Luke A (0.2 IP, 4ER, 1H, 3BB, 1K) and Henry Scofield (0.1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K) shared the pitching duties in the Cartersville loss. The local 10U Gold team had no hits.
8U BARTOW COUNTY SOFTBALL ADVANCES TO DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND
8U Bartow County girls defeated Rockmart Monday night in the third round of the 2022 GRPA District 5 Championship Tournament at Westside Park in Whitfield County.
The win advances Bartow County to the winner’s bracket final Tuesday night in the double-elimination tournament where they will square off against Calhoun. Four other teams — Murray County, Whitfield County, Rockmart, and Summerville each have one loss entering Tuesday’s action.
12U BARTOW COUNTY SOFTBALL STAYS UNBEATEN AT DISTRICT TOURNEY
The Bartow County 12U softball team remains the only unbeaten team heading into Tuesday night’s championship round of the 2022 GRPA District 5 Tournament. Bartow edged Whitfield County 1-0 Monday night at Hamilton Crossing Park to advance.
Tuesday’s championship game(s) will also be against Whitfield County who blanked Cherokee County 6-0 in an elimination game also played Monday night.
Bartow 12U needs one win Tuesday night to win the district championship. Whitfield will need two wins.
10U BARTOW COUNTY SOFTBALL PLACES THIRD AT GRPA DISTRICT 5 TOURNEY
In the 10U District 5 Tournament at Hamilton Crossing Park, Bartow County lost twice Monday night and was eliminated.
The Bartow 10U losses were to Murray County 14-6 and Rockmart 18-13. Murray and Rockmart square off for the GRPA district championship Tuesday night.
