The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes finished their Region 7-AAAA schedule without a loss on Thursday night by sweeping a doubleheader at Dalton. Meanwhile, Adairsville lost a second consecutive game to Northwest Whitfield, and Woodland was defeated in two games by Allatoona.
CARTERSVILLE 20, DALTON 5
CARTERSVILLE 18, DALTON 4
The Purple Hurricanes completed a perfect 21-0 run through Region 7-AAAA on Thursday by winning both games of a doubleheader at Dalton, 20-5 and 18-4.
Nolan Elrod collected the Canes’ pitching win in the opener. He struck out seven and allowed two earned runs on three hits and one walk. Brayden Logan (1 IP, 3ER, 3H, 3BB, 2K) and Wyatt Earwood (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K) each worked one inning in Game 1.
In the nightcap, Logan Buchanan (4 IP, 4ER, 5H, 3BB, 5K) earned the pitching victory. Cole Crawford (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 2K) closed out the fifth inning.
The Canes totaled two dozen hits in the doubleheader, including a four-hit night for Harris Turner and three hits by Nolan Elrod. Turner’s night included two home runs, two doubles, and eight RBI. Elrod also hit two homers, one double, and finished with four RBI.
Cooper Reynolds (two home runs, six RBI), Crawford (home run, double, three RBI), David Vargas (double, two RBI), Logan (double, two RBI), Tyler Hickman (two doubles, one RBI), and Clint Hosea (RBI) each contributed two hits.
Gianni Gandy (home run, three RBI), Brant Rutledge (double, two RBI), Asa Mitcham (triple, RBI), Ben Cagle (double, RBI), and Cooper Adams (RBI) each added one hit for the Canes.
Dalton (17-11, 13-8) finished fourth in Region 7-AAAA and will begin the state playoffs on the road on Wednesday.
Cartersville (23-7, 21-0) will be the top seed from Region 7-AAAA and will host a first round series beginning with a doubleheader on Wednesday at Richard Bell Field.
NORTHWEST WHITFIELD 12, ADAIRSVILLE 9
The visiting Bruins built a 12-2 lead through 5-½ innings Thursday night at Adairsville and held on to defeat the Tigers 12-9. The win by Northwest Whitfield tied Adairsville for third place in the Region 7-AAA standings going into Friday’s final regular-season game in Tunnel Hill.
Class AAA uses the GHSA Postseason rankings for playoff seeding. The final positions will be calculated this weekend. Adairsville was No. 11, and Northwest Whitfield was No. 22 entering Thursday night’s game.
Adairsville rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday, but got no closer. Both teams managed to accumulate 12 hits, while each team also committed six errors.
The Tigers used five pitchers in the loss including starter Hudson Parr (4.2 IP, 3ER, 7H, 3BB, 4K), Tyler Parker (0.1 IP, 3R, 2ER), Evan Hardin (0.0 IP, 4ER, 1H, 2BB), Bryson Weaver (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1K), and Harrison Cole (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 3K).
Kaden Coker had three hits for Adairsville, including two RBI. Matthew Cook (RBI), Cole (RBI), and Parr (sac fly, RBI) contributed two hits. Brody Varner (double, RBI), Westin Barfield (double, RBI), and Hayden Miller each added one hit.
Northwest Whitfield (15-14, 10-7) hosts Adairsville (18-10, 10-7) on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
ALLATOONA 13, WOODLAND 2
ALLATOONA 19, WOODLAND 5
The Allatoona Buccaneers completed a three-game series sweep Thursday by taking both games of a doubleheader at Woodland, 13-2 and 19-5.
In the first game on Thursday, Allatoona scored all thirteen of its runs in the first two innings, and pitcher Tommy McAuley limited the Wildcats to two, unearned runs on five hits and one walk.
In the second game, the Buccaneers led 7-5 through the first three innings before putting the game away with an 11-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning.
Preston Sorrells had three hits for Woodland in the doubleheader, including one double and one RBI. Jacob Tatum (two RBI), Jonathan Ryan (RBI), and Sammy Ray had two hits on the night. Tommy Risner and Alfredo Romo contributed one hit. Logan Smith added one RBI.
Blake Forstie (1 IP, 7R, 6ER, 3H, 3BB, 1K) started Thursday’s opener on the mound. Clayton Wilkes (3.2 IP, 12R, 10ER, 7H, 3BB) was the Wildcats’ starter in Game 2. Cameron O’Sheilds (4 IP, 6R, 4ER, 7H, 1BB, 2K) and Brylon Reynolds (0.0 IP, 5ER, 1H, 3BB) pitched in relief in the two games.
Allatoona (22-9, 16-5) locked up second place in the Region 7-AAAA standings and will host a first-round state playoff series beginning on Wednesday.
Woodland (13-16, 8-13) will wrap up its 2026 season on Friday at Osborne with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. in Marietta.
