Thursday's baseball roundup: Woodland wins at North Cobb


The Woodland Wildcats collected a 10-2 win at North Cobb Thursday evening, but all the other local teams in action suffered losses. Adairsville lost a heartbreaker at Coosa. Cartersville lost twice at home in games against Fellowship Christian and River Ridge, while Cass dropped a non-region decision at Model.


WOODLAND 10, NORTH COBB 2

Woodland led 7-0 after scoring twice in the top of the first and adding five more runs in the top of the fourth Thursday on the Wildcats way to a 10-2 victory at North Cobb.

Woodland pitchers Peyton Posey (4 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 6K), Nate Rosser (2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB), and Carter Heath (1 IP, 0R, 2K) limited the Warriors to only three hits and a pair of sixth inning runs.

The Wildcats banged out a dozen hits including five extra base hits. Chase Carson (triple, 2 RBIs), Posey (double, RBI), Jakiyon Porter (2 doubles), and Ayden Ray (RBI) had two hits each. Trevor Montgomery (double, RBI), Scotty Smith (sac fly, 2 RBIs), Carter Heath (RBI), and Jacob Gravett (RBI) contributed one hit each. Nate Rosser added one RBI with a sacrifice fly.

The loss drops North Cobb to 2-1 on the season.

Woodland (2-2) hosts a pair of games Saturday facing Paulding County at 12 noon and Sonoraville at 6 p.m.


COOSA 8, ADAIRSVILLE 7

The Adairsville Tigers battled back from a 7-1 deficit through five innings Thursday evening to tie their game at Coosa, but Gavin East lined an RBI, walk-off single to center field in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Eagles to an 8-7 non-region win.

Jack Whitley had two hits for Adairsville including a double. Kyler Smith, Tyler Driggers, Logan Hunt (RBI), Elijah Padgett (RBI), and Chris Roper (RBI) had one hit each. Evan Sanders added an RBI for the Tigers.

Evan Sanders (1.2 IP, 1ER, 2H, 3K) was tagged with the pitching loss in relief of starter Grayson Belcher (3.1 IP, 5R, 2ER, 2H, 5BB, 4K), and middle reliever Elijah Padgett (1.2 IP, 2R, 0ER, 1H,1BB, 5K).

With the win, Coosa improved to 3-2.

Adairsville (1-3) plays a doubleheader at home Saturday at 12 noon against Chattooga.


FELLOWSHIP CHRISTIAN 13, CARTERSVILLE 2

The visiting Paladins used a two-run home run, a two-run double, and a grand slam home run in an 11-run second inning Thurday to take a 12-0 lead on their way to an eventual 13-2 win over Cartersville.

David Bishop hit both of the home runs for Fellowship Christian (4-1) as the Paladins sent 14 batters to the plate in the second frame.

Jake Brasfield tripled in the bottom of the second inning to drive in both Cartersville runs. Elliott Eastin, Parker McPherson, and Curt Bonner had the other Canes’ hits.

Mason McBee (1.2 IP, 8R, 1ER, 7H, 1BB, 3K) took the pitching loss for Cartersville. Cal Goss (0.1 IP, 4ER, 1H, 2BB) and Gunner Millsap (3 IP, 1ER, 1H, 1BB, 6K) also pitched for the Hurricanes.


RIVER RIDGE 5, CARTERSVILLE 3

The River Ridge Knights scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning Thursday night to break a 3-3 tie and earn a 5-3 win at Cartersville.

River Ridge started the deciding frame with a single and a walk. After two outs, both base runners scored on an infield error for a two-run Knights lead.

Hank Smith doubled in the Canes’ half of the seventh with two outs, but was stranded.

Davis Williams (3 IP, 2R, 0ER, 2H, 2BB, 7K) was tagged with the pitching loss in relief of starter Phillip Schiltz (4 IP, 3ER, 2H, 3BB, 8K).

On offense, Williams (double, 2 RBIs), Smith (double), Jake Brasfield (double), Curt Bonner, and Elliott Eastin had one hit each.

River Ridge improved to 4-1 with their win.

Cartersville (2-3) will return to the diamond next Thursday through Saturday in the Hoover, Alabama Perfect Game Tournament.


MODEL 11, CASS 7

The Colonels (1-4) dropped an 11-7 decision Thursday night at Model (4-1). Cass hosts Dawson County Monday at 5:55 p.m. and will be honoring the team’s seniors before the game.
