Thursday’s softball: Lady Cats, Lady Canes collect region road wins


Woodland and Cartersville both earned Region 7-5A wins Thursday night on the road while Cass lost at Calhoun.

 

WOODLAND 6, HIRAM 0

Haley Collum tossed a complete game, one-hitter Thursday night as the Lady Cats blanked host Hiram 6-0 in Region 7-5A action.


Collum, who had two hits including a solo home run, walked one and struck out seven in the circle while earning the win.


Cambrie Carrington also had two hits for Woodland including a double. Bailey Sakacsi tripled with two RBIs. Alana Carnes (RBI), Elizabeth Hartsfield (RBI), Karmen Zeferino, Kamryn Smith, and Lanie Calhoun added one hit each.


The Lady Cats (4-4, 1-1) have games Saturday at Buford with the host Wolves and Collins Hill.


CARTERSVILLE 15, DALTON 5

The Lady Canes went to the seventh inning Thursday night at Dalton tied 5-5 but blew the game wide open by scoring ten times in the top of the final frame.


Dalton held leads of 4-1 through three innings and 5-3 going to the sixth. Cartersville tied the score with a pair of runs in the sixth before their scoring surge in the seventh inning.


Jordan Bishop reached base in all five plate appearances for the Canes. The Cartersville catcher singled, homered, and walked three times.


Layne Callan (2 RBIs), Campbell Rogers (2 RBIs), Reese Dumas (2 RBIs), Kiley Arnold (RBI), and Ava Perkins (RBI) added one hit each. Elizabeth Nelson and Jaycee Blackwell contributed one RBI apiece.


Kennedy Stevens (3.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 2K) earned the pitching win in relief of starter Kiley Arnold (3.1 IP, 5R, 3ER, 6H, 5BB, 1K). Cartersville (3-3-1) plays North Cobb and Sprayberry Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at North Cobb.



CALHOUN 10, CASS 8

The Lady Colonels threatened a comeback late Thursday night at Calhoun but came up just short in a 10-8 Region 7-5A loss.


Cass trailed 10-5 through four innings and posted three runs in the sixth inning but couldn’t finish the rally.


Haylee Dishmon had two hits including a double and three RBIs to lead the Cass attack. Alexis Woods also finished with two hits. Ansley Hight (RBI), Braelyn Franklin (RBI), and Emma Gibson added one hit each. Reese Howard contributed one RBI.


Cass (4-3, 1-1) hosts Gilmer Monday at 5:30 p.m. and Hiram Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.
