Thursday's softball roundup: Lady Canes suffer first loss, Cass and Adairsville earn region wins

All four local high school softball teams were in action on Thursday evening, with Cartersville falling for the first time this season. Cass blanked Woodland and Adairsville routed Southeast Whitfield.

CASS 6, WOODLAND 0

Cass pitcher Kylie Gentry struck out five and threw a two-hitter at Woodland on Thursday as the Lady Colonels shut out the Lady Cats, 6-0. 

The Colonels amassed 15 hits in their victory.

Addy Bauder (double) led Cass with three hits. MJ McFarlane (RBI), Kharmyn Collum (double), Maci Walker (double), and Shyia Woods each had two hits. Rilyn Caspari (double, RBI), Lindsey Chubb (RBI), Natalie Hughes (RBI), and Gentry each added one hit.

Gracie Korb and Kylee Poston each had one hit for Woodland.

Woodland (1-3) plays at McEachern on Saturday at 11 a.m. Cass (3-3) hosts Dalton on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

HARRISON 4, CARTERSVILLE 3

The Lady Canes had their seven-game winning streak snapped Thursday night in Cobb County by the Harrison Lady Hoyas, 4-3.

Cartersville trailed 2-0 through five innings but rallied to tie the game in the top of the sixth. After the Hoyas hit a home run to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Canes tied the score again in the top of the seventh. Harrison, however, answered in walk-off fashion, taking advantage of a single, a sacrifice bunt, and an infield error to plate the game-winning run.

Presley Crabbe (4 IP, 2R, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 3K) and Zoie Shiflett (2.1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 0BB, 2K) both pitched for the Hurricanes. 

Shiflett (double, two RBI), Taryn Bradley, Emilee Brinson, and Carder Brock each had one hit for Cartersville.

Harrison improved to 3-0. The Lady Canes (7-1) host Woodland on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.

ADAIRSVILLE 11, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 1

The Adairsville Lady Tigers scored runs in each of their first four offensive frames Thursday evening and cruised to an 11-1 win at Southeast Whitfield in five innings.

The Tigers outhit the Raiders 19-6 and committed no errors.

Paislee Rooks collected the pitching victory, yielding one earned run on six hits and three walks. She struck out two in five innings of work.

Lily Brookshire (triple, double, three RBI), Ashlyn Durden (double, three RBI), and Rooks (RBI) led the Lady Tigers’ offense with three hits each. Chloe Hill (two RBI), Sydney Satterfield (RBI), Ansley Powell, and Hynleigh Statham each had two hits. Madison Brookshire (RBI) and Khloe Shinall each added one hit.

The Raiders slipped to 2-5 with the loss. Adairsville (2-1) hosts Whitfield Academy on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
