Thursday's volleyball roundup: Lady Canes edged in five-set decision with Blue Devils

Cartersville volleyball narrowly lost an exciting match with Marietta on Thursday evening at the Storm Center with the decision coming down to a decisive fifth set.
The Lady Canes won the first two sets, 25-21 and 25-22 but the Blue Devils (16-4) took the final three sets — 25-21, 25-21, and 16-14.
Amara Ejieke led Cartersville with 13 kills. Holley Dufrene contributed 12 kills. Addison Marisko added 10 kills and Riley Huff had seven. Huff finished with seven blocks. Dufrene and Marisko tallied five blocks.
Sydney McNair-Seigler and Riley Jarrett led the Lady Canes with three aces.
McKenzie Wilkie led the Cartersville defense with 30 digs. Emma Wall had 20 assists followed by 18 assists by Aubree Barrett.
Cartersville (13-6, 2-0) returns to Region 7-4A play next Thursday at Allatoona where the Hurricanes will also play Cass.
LADY CATS LOSE TWO
On Thursday, Woodland volleyball dropped straight-set decisions to Model and host Chattooga in Summerville.
Model defeated Woodland 25-15 and 25-12. Chattooga beat the Lady Cats 25-9 and 25-12.
Izzy Hazelwood led Woodland with six attacks. Dayana Jaimes had three service aces.
Woodland plays next Thursday at Southeast Whitfield.
LADY TIGERS FALL TO VILLA RICA AND TEMPLE
Adairsville volleyball lost to both Villa Rica and host Temple on Thursday evening.
In a 14-25, 15-25 loss to Villa Rica, Addie Pearson had four kills, five assists, and three aces for the Lady Tigers.
Ella Steward had three kills in a 24-26, 9-25 loss to Temple.
Adairsville (7-12, 2-2) returns to action next Thursday at Gordon Central where they will also face Chattooga.
EXCEL CHRISTIAN VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN STRAIGHT SETS
The Excel Christian Academy volleyball team lost a region best-of-five match at Praise Academy on Thursday.
The Lady Eagles improved in each set but lost 7-25, 11-25, and 16-25.
Excel (1-5, 1-3 GAPPS, D-I Region 1) hosts Cherokee Christian School on Tuesday.
