Tigers, Canes, and Colonels earn diamond victories on Tuesday

On Tuesday night, Adairsville, Cartersville, and Cass garnered region wins on the baseball diamond.

The Adairsville Tigers climbed to within one game of region leader Northwest Whitfield Tuesday night with a 4-2 home win over the Bruins.


Jack Nelson pitched into the sixth inning, not allowing a run to collect the victory. He scattered four hits and three walks in 5-⅔ innings with eight strikeouts. Kaiden Coker (1 IP, 2R, 0ER, 1H, 1BB, 2K) and Jarrett Scott (0.1 IP, 1K) pitched in relief. Scott was credited with a save.


Brody Varner (RBI) had two hits for Adairsville. Braxton Ryan (double, sac fly, two RBI), Hudson Parr (RBI), Isaac Burnett (double), Scott, and Nelson added one hit for the Tigers.


The loss dropped Northwest Whitfield to 16-12 overall and 12-4 in Region 7-AAA.


Adairsville (16-7, 11-5) travels to Tunnel Hill to play the Bruins on Thursday and will host the series finale on Friday. Both games are slated for 5:30 p.m.



CARTERSVILLE 16, DALTON 0

The Hurricanes secured a home series to begin the Class AAAA state playoffs by winning at Dalton Tuesday night, 16-0.


The win by Cartersville means the Canes will be no worse than a No. 2 seed when the state playoffs begin April 23.


Cartersville led 9-0 through two innings on Tuesday and finished off the host Catamounts in four innings.


Nate Russell pitched all four innings for the Canes and struck out eight. He scattered three hits and one walk.


Brayden Logan (four RBI), Thomas Peters, and Tristan McKibben had two hits for the Purple Hurricanes. Julez Pratt hit a two-run homer and finished with four RBI. David Vargas (two RBI), Nolan Elrod (two RBI), Cole Crawford (RBI), and Andrew Purdy contributed one hit. Logan Buchanan, Cameron Cochran, and Cooper Adams added one RBI.


The Catamounts slipped to 20-8 overall and 13-6 in Region 7-AAAA.


Cartersville (21-7, 17-2) hosts Dalton for a doubleheader on Thursday at 5 p.m.




CASS 15, HIRAM 9

The Colonels built an 11-1 lead through four innings Tuesday but then held on for a 15-9 win at Hiram.


The Hornets sent eleven to the plate and scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh. 


Chase Tatum (2 IP, 1ER, 2H, 0BB, 2K) earned the pitching win in relief of Cass starter Jay Sheldon (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 5K). Trenton Elario (1.1 IP, 7R, 0ER, 4H, 1BB) and Dawson Warner (0.2 IP, 0R, 1H) also pitched in relief.


To pace the Colonels' offense, Zach Stiles had three hits, including two home runs and five RBI. Warner also had three hits. Tatum contributed two hits, including one double.


Bailey Berry (two RBI), Sheldon (RBI), and Elario added one hit. Nic Wright, Hunter Lovett, Landon Lamb, and Joey Kane contributed one RBI.


Cass (13-14, 8-11) will host Hiram (7-21, 2-17) in a doubleheader on Friday at 5 p.m.

 



ALLATOONA 11, WOODLAND 3


Sixth-ranked Allatoona won at Woodland on Tuesday, 11-3.


The visiting Buccaneers led 4-0 through four innings and added five runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to build an 11-0 lead. Woodland posted three runs in the bottom of the sixth.


Austin Daves (4 IP, 7R, 6ER, 7H, 3BB, 3K) made the pitching start for Woodland and suffered the loss. Grant Tidwell (2 IP, 4ER, 5H, 2BB, 2K) and Clayton Wilkes (1 IP, 0R, 1H) pitched in relief for the Wildcats.


Alfredo Romo (double), Preston Sorrells, and Lucas Baker had one hit for Woodland. Jake Clowers had two RBIs, and Zaylen Cochran had one.


The Buccaneers (25-3, 18-1) host Woodland (14-3, 8-11) for a doubleheader on Friday at 5 p.m.
