Tigers, Canes collect baseball wins

April 5, 2024 Adairsville and Cartersville picked up baseball wins on Friday. Woodland dropped a contest to Carrollton. ADAIRSVILLE 14, LAKEVIEW-FT. OGLETHORPE 1



Jack Nelson

Adairsville pitcher, Jack Nelson, had his no-hitter bid denied in the final frame Friday night as the Tigers won at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 14-1.


Nelson (5 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 3K) yielded a run on two hits and two hit batsmen in the bottom of the fifth but finished off the Warriors to earn the pitching victory.


Nelson also led the Tigers’ offensive attack with three hits (double, two RBIs). PJ Week (double, two RBIs) and Braxton Ryan (home run, five RBIs) had two hits. Isaac Burnette (RBI), Peyton Bowen, Harrison Cole (double), Landon O’Neal (RBI), Hudson Parr (double, two RBIs), Ryan Farr (RBI), and Lucas Henry added one hit.


LFO slipped to 9-13 overall and 3-5 in Region 6-AAA.


Adairsville (12-7, 5-4) hosts LFO on Tuesday.



CARTERSVILLE 7, CEDARTOWN 3

Cartersville trailed in the early innings but scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth inning Friday night be beat Cedartown 7-3 in their third and final game of the Battle for Bartow Invitational at LakePoint.


Cedartown took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second inning and led 3-2 until the Canes gained the advantage in the bottom of the fourth.


Nicholas Hruby (3 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 1K) pitched three scoreless innings in middle relief to collect the win on the mound. Jackson Harwell (2 IP, 3R, 0ER, 3H, 2K) made the pitching start. Dawson Bishop (1 IP, 1K) and Andrew Purdy (1 IP, 1BB) closed out the Bulldogs.


Luke Miller (double, RBI) and Aidan Larkin led the Cartersville offense with three hits. Charlie Rothschild (RBI) and Thomas Peters (triple) added one hit. Caleb Daniel had one RBI with a sac fly.


The loss dropped Cedartown to 7-15 on the season.


Cartersville (19-4, 9-0) has a three-game region series with Cass next week. The Colonels will host on Tuesday and Friday. The Canes will host on Thursday. Each game is schedule to start at 5:55 p.m.



CARROLLTON 14, WOODLAND 4


Woodland scored two runs in the top of the first inning Friday afternoon at LakePoint in their game with Carrollton at the Battle for Bartow Invitational but the Trojans responded quickly and finished off the Wildcats 14-4 in five innings.


Carrollton (16-6 and No. 9 in Class 7A) scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and led 8-4 in the middle of the fourth inning. The Trojans added two runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to close out the game.


A trio of Carrollton pitchers limited the Wildcats to only two hits — both doubles — by Conner Lujan and Mason Williams.


Logan Bentley (3.1 IP, 10R, 8ER, 6H, 5BB) was saddled with the Woodland pitching loss. JD Trail (1 IP, 4R, 3ER, 4H, 3BB, 1K) retired three batters.


Woodland (11-10, 2-4) plays at McEachern on Saturday at 3 p.m.
