Tigers earn a doubleheader sweep at Murray County; Canes fall twice in Carrollton

The Adairsville Tigers won two games on Saturday at Murray County, and the Cartersville Purple Hurricanes lost to Hillgrove and host Carrollton.
ADAIRSVILLE 6, MURRAY COUNTY 0
The Tigers broke a scoreless tie with a go-ahead run in the top of the fifth, then put the game away with five runs in the sixth inning in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader in Chatsworth.
Adairsville starting pitcher Hudson Parr tossed six shutout innings and struck out 14 to earn the mound victory. He yielded just two hits and issued no walks. McCayden Hufstetler struck out two to close out the shutout in the seventh.
Harrison Cole and Westin Barfield (double) each had two hits. Brody Varner (two RBI), Parr (two RBI), Bryson Weaver (triple), Matthew Cook, Evan Hardin, and Braden Slocumb (RBI) added one hit each.
ADAIRSVILLE 10, MURRAY COUNTY 8
The Tigers scored five runs in the third inning and five more in the fifth on Saturday, then held on to win the second game of a doubleheader at Murray County, 10-8.
Harrison Cole led the Adairsville offense with three hits, including a grand slam home run and five RBI. Evan Hardin and McCayden Hufstetler each contributed two hits. Westin Barfield (two RBI), Braden Slocumb (RBI), and Kaden Coker produced one hit. Matthew Cook and Tyler Parker each added one RBI.
Hardin (1.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 3K) collected the Tigers’ pitching win in relief of starter Tyler Parker (2.1 IP, 4ER, 4H, 1BB, 2K). Cole (0.2 IP, 4ER, 2H, 3BB) and Coker (2.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 0BB, 3K) also pitched in relief.
The two losses on Saturday left Murray County at 7-3.
Adairsville (8-2) begins Region 7-AAA play on Tuesday at Calhoun. The Tigers will host the Yellow Jackets on Thursday and play the third game of the region series at Cahoun on Friday. All three games are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
HILLGROVE 9, CARTERSVILLE 4
Hillgrove took advantage of four hit batters and two walks in the top of the sixth inning on Saturday afternoon to score six runs and come-from-behind to defeat Cartersville 9-4 in a game played at Carrollton High School.
The Canes led 4-3 through five innings, and the two teams both finished with seven hits.
Wyatt Earwood (1.2 IP, 5ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for the Hurricanes in relief of starter Nolan Elrod (4 IP, 3R, 1ER, 4H, 3BB, 8K). Logan Buchanan (0.0 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2BB) and J.B. Nichols (1.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB, 2K) also pitched in relief for Cartersville.
David Vargas led the Canes’ bats with two hits and one RBI. Tyler Hickman (double, two RBI), Cole Crawford (double, RBI), Clint Hosea, James Manring, and Elrod each added one hit.
CARROLLTON 10, CARTERSVILLE 4
The host Trojans built a 6-1 lead through four innings and finished off a 10-4 win Saturday over Cartersville.
Carrollton pitchers Carson Heath, Caden Opperman, and Kolton Messer limited the Canes to six hits and combined for 10 strikeouts.
Cartersville utilized six pitchers with starter Brayden Logan (2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 3BB, 1K) tagged with the loss. Coleman Stubblefield (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 1K), Cole Crawford (1 IP, 2ER, 1H, 1BB, 2K), Tyler Hickman (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K), Gianni Gandy (0.1 IP, 4R, 3ER, 2H, 1BB), and Wyatt Earwood (0.2 IP, 0R, 1H) all worked short stints on the mound.
Nolan Elrod and Brayden Logan had two hits for the Canes. Brant Rutledge (two RBI) and David Vargas contributed one hit for Cartersville.
Carrollton improved to 5-5.
Cartersville (2-7) will look to snap a seven-game skid when the Canes open play in Region 7-AAAA on Tuesday at home against Allatoona. The three-game region series continues on Friday with a doubleheader on the Buccaneers' home field, starting at 5 p.m.
