Tigers edge Murray County in extra innings


Braden Powell produced a bases loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning Saturday to help lift Adairsville to a 5-4 win over visiting Murray County in Region 6-AAA action.


Adairsville led 2-1 through four innings and regained the lead at 4-3 in the sixth. Murray County scored a run in the top of the seventh to tie the score 4-4, but the Tigers escaped with their win in the bottom of the eighth.


Evan Sanders picked up the pitching win for Adairsville in relief of starter Jack Whitley.


Sanders worked the final three innings allowing only one earned run on three hits and a walk. He struck out six.

Whitley scattered three hits across the first five innings and did not walk a batter. None of the three runs against Whitley were earned. He fanned three.

Logan Hunt had two hits and two RBIs for the Tigers. Elijah Padgett, Kyler Smith, and Sanders (RBI) each contributed a double. Tyler Driggers added a hit and one RBI.

The loss dropped Murray County to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in Region 6-AAA.


Adairsville (7-7, 2-2) plays at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. and will host the Warriors Thursday.
