Tigers fall to Rockmart, 45-7

Visiting Rockmart remained the only team unbeaten in Region 6-AAA play Friday night with a 45-7 win at Adairsville. After a scoreless first quarter, the Yellow Jackets led 17-0 at halftime and scored twice in a 30-second span early in the third quarter to take a commanding lead. Rockmart scored on five consecutive possessions during that stretch and built a 31-0 lead in the third quarter.

Rockmart quarterback Javin Whatley scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter and connected with Dennis Sims for a 32-yard touchdown pass in the third period. Jai Penson and Keyshaun McCollough had rushing touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets. Terrion Webb scored on a 34-yard scoop and score of an Adairsville fumble. Sims returned a fourth quarter blocked field goal attempt 71 yards for a touchdown, and Jose Alegria — who made all his PAT kicks — had a 19-yard field goal in the first half.

Adairsville quarterback Conner Crunkelton finished 4-for-11 for 62 yards and one touchdown. Ja’Maury Johnson led the Tigers in rushing with 61 yards on nine attempts. Eli Agnew carried 11 times for 38 yards, and Chris Roper finished with one carry for 14 yards and a 39-yard reception. Adairsville's lone touchdown was a 39-yard pass from Crunkelton to Roper with 1:16 remaining in the third quarter.


7th-ranked Rockmart improved to 7-1 overall and 6-0 in region play. The Yellow Jackets entertain LaFayette next week. Adairsville (5-3, 4-2) will host North Murray next Friday night.
