Tigers to face Cartersville in Christmas Clash semifinals Wednesday night; Lady Tigers fall in OT
The Adairsville Tigers took an early 20-9 first quarter lead and kept the pressure on the visiting Johnson-Gainesville Knights for a 71-35 first round win Tuesday night at the Adairsville Christmas Clash.
The Tigers led 37-20 at halftime and extended their lead to 56-28 by the end of the third quarter as they kept Johnson (0-10) winless on the season. Hayden Poarch paced Adairsville with 15 points. T.J. Printup followed with 13. Tre Mitchell scored 10. Zac Postell contributed seven points while Zach Weaver, Xavious Nalls, and Kavi Harris added six points each.
Jake Shaw and Alex Flores scored six points each for the Knights.
Johnson will play a consolation game Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. against Dalton Academy.
Adairsville (6-3) advances to Wednesday night’s semifinal round at 8:30 p.m. against Cartersville.
BLESSED TRINITY 58, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 51 (overtime)
The Adairsville girls took Class 5A Blessed Trinity to an overtime session Tuesday night, but came up just short in a 58-51 first round loss.
Blessed Trinity led 12-7 after one quarter and 28-19 at halftime before the Lady Tigers rallied back into contention in the second half. Adairsville trailed 34-32 after three quarters and sent the game into overtime tied at 48-all.
Christa Lair led the Lady Titans with 18 points. Evie Bilson and Julia Geis added 10 points each for Blessed Trinity.
Haley Stiles and Ya’Torrean Hale led Adairsville with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Blessed Trinity (3-7) advances to Wednesday’s Christmas Clash semifinals to face Chattooga at 7 p.m.
Adairsville (7-3) will play a consolation game Wednesday at 1 p.m. against Woodland.
