Tigers top Mt. Zion-Carroll, fall to Temple

The Adairsville Tigers split a pair of games played Saturday at Temple.
Adairsville won their opener against Mt. Zion-Carroll 6-3, but dropped the nightcap to host Temple 13-7.

In Saturday’s opener the Tigers overcame eight errors by scoring three times over the final two innings to defeat Mt. Zion-Carroll 6-3.
Jack Whitley started on the mound for Adairsville and went five innings to collect the win. He scattered four hits and a walk and did not allow an earned run. Elijah Padgett picked up a save with two innings of relief. Padgett walked three and struck out four.
Chris Roper had two hits and one RBI for the Tigers’ offense. Grayson Belcher had a double and one RBI. Kyler Smith contributed a hit and one RBI. Braden Powell added a hit.
Mt. Zion-Carroll slipped to 1-5 with the loss.
TEMPLE 13, ADAIRSVILLE 7
Temple scored eight times in the first two innings and eventually pounded out 15 hits to defeat Adairsville Saturday evening, 13-7.
Temple led 8-2 after two innings and built a 10-3 lead through four frames. After Adairsville narrowed the deficit to 10-7 with a four-run top of the sixth, Temple answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning for a six-run win.
Andrew Cash (4 IP, 3R, 2ER, 6H, 6K) was the winning pitcher for Temple with four innings of work.
Adairsville starter Grayson Belcher (0.1 IP, 5ER, 1H, 2BB, 1K) took the loss. Brenden Carroll (3 IP, 5ER, 7H, 4BB, 4K), Wade Dooley (0.2 IP, 0R, 2H), and Evan Sanders (2 IP, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K) pitched in relief.
Chris Roper had four hits for the Adairsville offense including a double and two RBIs. Tyler Driggers and Kyler Smith (double) had two hits each. Dawson Craig contributed a double and one RBI. Wade Dooley and Carroll had one hit apiece. Connor Crunkleton and Elijah Padgett had one RBI each.
Temple improved to 7-4.
Adairsville (5-5) returns to action Friday in a Region 6-AAA matchup at North Murray.
