Adairsville’s Tyler Parker delivered the decisive blow Thursday night, doubling home the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Tigers a dramatic 4-3 walkoff victory over visiting Calhoun.
Colton Sanford, who entered as a pinch runner after Hudson Parr drew a walk, crossed the plate with the winning run to cap the comeback.
The win evened the Region 7-AAA series at one game apiece after Calhoun took the opener 6-3 on Tuesday.
Adairsville held a 3-1 lead through three innings, but the Yellow Jackets fought back with single runs in the sixth and seventh to force extra innings.
Parker earned the pitching victory in relief, working two shutout innings after Parr’s strong seven-inning start. Parr allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits, with no walks and eight strikeouts. Parker gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out one.
Offensively, Parker paced the Tigers with three hits, including two doubles and two RBI. Evan Hardin added two hits and one RBI, while Westin Barfield and McCayden Hufstetler each chipped in one hit.
Adairsville improves to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in Region 7-AAA. Calhoun falls to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the region.
The teams will conclude the series on Friday at Calhoun, with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Adairsville has a three-game region series next week against Gilmer, beginning on Tuesday at home.
