Tigers win at North Murray to secure region's No. 3-seed

Adairsville’s Eli Agnew ran for three touchdowns and Chris Roper and Jonathan Gough added two touchdown runs each as the Tigers secured the Region 6-AAA No. 3-seed for the state playoffs Friday night at North Murray, 47-18.


Roper gave the Tigers an early 6-0 lead with a 71-yard touchdown run. He added a 9-yarder late in the half as Adairsville took a 33-11 lead at halftime.


Jonathan Gough scored the Tigers’ second touchdown for a 12-8 lead and added a 3-yard scoring run with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.


The host Mountaineers scored on a 36-yard touchdown pass and a two point conversion from Seth Griffin to Judson Petty with 7:38 to go in the first quarter. It was North Murray’s only lead of the game at 8-6.


Agnew scored on a 5-yard run to put the Tigers back in the lead. The senior’s scoring run was set up by a long run by Roper.


Owen Hannah connected on a 28-yard field goal for North Murray midway through the second quarter. The kick narrowed Adairsville’s lead to 19-11 at the time.


Adairsville added two second half touchdowns on 4-yard runs by Agnew.


North Murray added a late touchdown to round out the scoring.


Adairsville (7-2, 5-2) will host Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (1-8, 1-7) next Friday to close out the regular season. The Tigers will finish third in the region standings behind Ringgold and Rockmart. Those two teams — both unbeaten in region play — square off next Friday to determine the region title.


North Murray can secure the region’s No. 4-seed with a win next Friday at LaFayette.
