Top-ranked Hurricanes complete series sweep of the Catamounts

Cartersville swept a Region 7-5A doubleheader with Dalton Friday night at Richard Bell Field. The two wins also completed a three-game series sweep for the No. 1 ranked Hurricanes.
Cartersville won 3-0 and 7-1 Friday night.
Sawyer Wilson (6 IP, 0R, 3H, 0BB, 7K) picked up the pitching win in Game 1 with Andrew Purdy fanning all three batters he faced in the final inning to earn a save.
Three Cartersville pitchers limited the Catamounts to one run on three hits in Game 2.
Nate Russell (3 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) made the start and collected the win. Logan Shrewsbury (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB, 4K) and Nicholas Hruby (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 2K) pitched for the Canes in relief.
Cartersville totaled 13 hits in the doubleheader.
Aidan Larkin led the Purple Hurricanes’ offense with three hits including a homer, one double, and two RBIs. Luke Miller (double), Purdy (triple, double, two RBIs), and Landon Cole (double, 2 sac flies, three RBIs) contributed two hits. Cameron Cochran, Tristan McKibben, Cole Crawford, and Caleb Daniel added one hit.
Dalton falls to 5-13 overall and 1-8 in region games.
Cartersville (17-3, 9-0 Region 7-5A) faces McIntosh (1 p.m.) and Houston County (7 p.m.) on Thursday in the Battle for Bartow at LakePoint.
ADAIRSVILLE 6, LAFAYETTE 2
Adairsville pitcher Jack Nelson struck out eleven and limited LaFayette to just one earned run on four hits and two walks Friday as the Tigers beat the Ramblers, 6-2.
PJ Weeks had two hits with two RBIs for the Adairsville offense. Hudson Parr (RBI), Hayden Blalock, Braxton Ryan, and Peyton Bowen added one hit for the Tigers.
The loss dropped LaFayette to 8-11 overall and 1-4 in region play.
Adairsville (11-5, 3-2), ranked 10th in Class 3A hosts 7th-ranked Ringgold on Tuesday.
McEACHERN 7, WOODLAND 6
The Woodland Wildcats led 6-2 in the middle of the fifth inning Friday night at McEachern but the host Indians scored five runs over their last two frames to pull out a 7-6 win.
Woodland posted their six runs on just four hits but took advantage of nine walks.
McEachern totaled seven hits.
J.D. Trail (0.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 2H, 1K) was tagged with the Wildcats’ pitching loss in relief of starter Austin Daves (4.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 5H, 6BB, 4K) who worked into the fifth inning. Lucas Baker (0.2 IP) retired the two batters he faced in the sixth inning.
Ayden Ray had one hit and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Jake Clowers, Mason Williams, and Jonathan Ryan added one hit.
McEachern improved to 9-6.
Woodland (10-8, 2-4) will play Alexander (1 p.m.) and Cedartown (7 p.m.) on Thursday in the Battle for Bartow Tournament at LakePoint.
CALHOUN 12, CASS 4
Calhoun won the rubber game of their Region 7-5A series with Cass Friday night on the Colonels’ home field, 12-4.
The Yellow Jackets (6-12, 2-4) won the three-game series two games to one with the road team winning each game.
Cass led 4-2 after one inning and 4-3 heading to the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth, Calhoun took advantage of two walks, a hit batsman, and two errors with two hits and a home run to score eight runs.
Chase Tatum (1 IP, 8R, 3H, 2BB, 1K) was saddled with the pitching loss in relief of starter Cayden Roberts (4 IP, 4R, 1ER, 5H, 2BB, 3K). Devan Hutchinson (1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 1H, 1K) and Jake Johnson (1 IP, 2K) also pitched for the Colonels.
Hutchinson (RBI), Caleb Freeman (RBI), Hunter Lovett, and Jesiel Moctezuma (double) had one hit for Cass. Connor Jenkins and Trenton Payne added one RBI.
Cass (12-8, 4-2) will play at Athens Academy on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Colonels will also play a doubleheader on Thursday at Oconee County beginning at noon.
