Tuesday night's hoops: Cartersville sweeps Cass

The Cartersville Lady Canes and Hurricanes completed a doubleheader sweep against the visiting Cass on Tuesday night. In contrast, both Woodland teams were defeated by visiting Allatoona, and the Adairsville boys lost at Walton. CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 58, CASS 29

The Cartersville Lady Canes continued their strong start to the season with a commanding 58-29 victory over the Cass Lady Colonels on Tuesday night at The Storm Center, improving to 6-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in region play.
Cartersville controlled the game from the opening tip, building an 18-5 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 32-17 by halftime. The Lady Canes maintained their momentum in the third quarter, outscoring Cass 23-12 to take a comfortable 54-29 advantage into the final period before cruising to the 29-point win.
Sophomore Zoe McCurry led the way for Cartersville with a game-high 17 points. Kaytlin Arnold added 11 points, while Reese Gibson contributed seven.
For Cass, which fell to 2-7 overall and 2-1 in the region, Cadie Paez paced the team with 11 points, and Anizah Taylor chipped in 7.
The win keeps Cartersville atop the region standings early in the schedule as they look to build on their hot start.
Up next, the Lady Canes travel to face Discovery in Lawrenceville on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Cass returns home to host Sonoraville on Thursday at 6 p.m.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 69, CASS 58

The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes remained unbeaten with a 69-58 victory over the Cass Colonels on Tuesday night at The Storm Center, improving to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in region play.
Cartersville seized a slim 10-9 edge after the first quarter before taking a 30-28 lead at the intermission. The Canes extended their advantage to 49-39 by the end of the third quarter and finished off an 11-point win.
Wyatt Thomason led a balanced Cartersville attack with 19 points, followed closely by Xavier Lowe with 16 and Nas Bennett with 14. Kyron McClenson added 9 points in the winning effort.
For Cass, which dropped to 2-7 overall and 2-1 in the region, Isaiah Moreno paced the team with 17 points, Eli Simmons scored 15, and Lucas Pealor contributed 8.
The victory keeps Cartersville perfect through the early portion of the season as they continue to assert themselves as a region frontrunner.
Up next, the Purple Hurricanes head to the SMI Carrollton Tournament at Villa Rica with an 8:30 p.m. tip-off against host Villa Rica on Thursday. That tournament continues through Saturday. Cass returns home to host Sonoraville on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
ALLATOONA 57, WOODLAND BOYS 38 The visiting Buccaneers improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in Region 7-4A on Tuesday night with a 57-38 win at Woodland. With the loss, the Wildcats slipped to 5-5 overall and 0-3 in region play. Woodland hosts Unity Christian on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and will square off with McMinn Central (TN) on Friday at 4 p.m. at North Murray High School.
ALLATOONA 38, WOODLAND GIRLS 15 Sophie Macurak and Addie Gray led the Allatoona girls with 12 and 10 points, respectively, in a 38-15 Region 7-4A win Tuesday night at Woodland. Allatoona (2-5, 2-1) led 15-2 at halftime and extended its lead in the second half. Destiny Jackson led the Lady Cats with 11 points and 17 rebounds. Woodland (3-7, 0-3) hosts Unity Christian on Thursday at 6 p.m. and will play Haralson County on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at North Murray High School.
WALTON 78, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 28 The Adairsville boys lost at Class 6A Walton on Tuesday evening, 78-28. The host Raiders improved to 8-1 on the season.
Adairsville (0-9) hosts Chattooga in a non-region contest on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and will host Sequoyah on Saturday at 3 p.m.
