Tuesday's hoops roundup: Local teams add region wins

Five local high school basketball teams secured region victories on Tuesday night, including the girls' teams from Cass, Adairsville, and Cartersville. Additionally, the boys' teams from Excel Christian Academy and Cartersville also achieved wins.
CASS GIRLS 50, HIRAM 29
The Lady Colonels took a nice step forward in the race for a top-four seed in the Region 7-AAAA tournament on Tuesday night with a 50-29 road win at Hiram.
The Lady Colonels outscored the Lady Hornets 15-5 in the second quarter to build a 26-15 lead at halftime and added to their lead in the second half.
Yvonne Ellison led Cass with 18 points. Nakayla Evans scored 14, and Cadie Paez added 10 for the Cass.
Brittani Payne posted 14 points for Hiram (5-9, 3-3).
The Cass girls (5-9, 4-2) welcome Allatoona on Friday.
ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 47, LAFAYETTE 42
The Lady Tigers had one of their most productive fourth quarters of the season and collected their second Region 7-AAA win on Tuesday night at LaFayette, 47-42.
LaFayette led 29-15 at halftime and 38-25 through three quarters before Adairsville rallied from behind, outscoring the Lady Ramblers 22-4 in the final eight minutes.
Jaida Harris paced the Lady Tigers with 13 points. Savannah Viktora scored 10. Rihanna Crittenden and Alivia Joslin added nine and eight points, respectively.
Ava Kellam led LaFayette with 16 points.
The Lady Tigers visit region-foe Gilmer on Friday for a 6 p.m. tip.
CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 76, CEDARTOWN 17
Zoe McCurry poured in 23 points with six assists and five rebounds on Tuesday at the Storm Center as the Lady Canes rolled by Cedartown. Kaytlin Arnold added 19 points and three steals in Cartersville’s 76-17 victory.
Kenzlei Boozer scored six points for the Lady Bulldogs (4-10, 1-5).
Cartersville (13-2, 6-0) makes the short trek to Woodland on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. tip.
EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 87, PRAISE ACADEMY 71
The Eagles stayed perfect in region play on Tuesday night with an 87-71 win at Praise Academy in Powder Springs.
Excel led 32-13 after one quarter, 50-30 at halftime, and 67-55 at the end of the third period in their win.
Mason McKinney led the Eagles with 26 points. Jamari Gatson finished with 12 points, and Damir McBride added 11.
Daniel Foote and Caleb Daetayer led Praise Academy with 24 and 22 points, respectively. Brandon Ivey added 15 for the Lions (9-4, 3-2).
The Excel boys (15-4, 4-0) travel to Oakwood Christian on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. start.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 89, CEDARTOWN 49

The Canes stayed unbeaten in Region 7-AAAA with a blowout home win over Cedartown on Tuesday night, 89-49.
Cartersville led 35-25 at halftime and pulled away in the second half.
Wyatt Thomason produced a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds. Nas Bennett followed with 17 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Bennett also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career, currently averaging over 16 points per game.
Kyron McClendon scored 14 points with nine boards, seven assists, and a pair of steals. Xavier Lowe posted 10 points, and Grayson Warmack added seven rebounds for the Hurricanes.
Damon Smith led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Zane Diamond Pasley added 13 for Cedartown (6-9, 2-4).
Cartersville (12-3, 6-0) visits Woodland on Friday
LAFAYETTE 69, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 37
The Tigers started slowly on Tuesday at LaFayette and did not recover, falling 69-37 in a Region 7-AAA loss.
The host Ramblers led 15-6 after one quarter and 30-13 at halftime en route to a 32-point win.
Bryson Penson led all scorers with 17 points for LaFayette. Brennan Ballard and Tay Ware each added 10 for the Ramblers (11-5, 3-2).
Barrett Fuller and Brooks Rutledge each scored 10 points for the Tigers. Eli Pearson added nine.
Adairsville (2-16, 1-5) travels to Gilmer on Friday.
HIRAM 81, CASS BOYS 45
The host Hornets had four players reach double-digit scoring on Tuesday, overpowering the Cass Colonels 81-45.
A.J. Williams led all scorers with 24 points for Hiram. Jordan Smith scored 16. Quin Jackson produced 15 points, and Jayden Gaddis contributed 11 for the Hornets (9-8, 5-1 Region 7-AAAA).
Isaiah Moreno led Cass with 15 points. Eli Simmons and Cameron Beauford added 10 and eight points, respectively.
Cass (3-11, 2-4) hosts the Allatoona Buccaneers in another region game on Friday.
