Tuesday's local volleyball roundup: Lady Canes earn split, Woodland win marathon match

Cartersville volleyball split two home matches Tuesday night against top-level competition at the Storm Center.  The Lady Canes defeated Blessed Trinity in two sets, 25-18, 26-24, but fell to Lovett in three sets, 25-23, 24-26, 8-15.


Amara Ejieke had 13 kills, five digs, and one block in the win over the Lady Titans. Blakely Morris totaled four kills, one block, one assist, and one dig. Brooke Bellarmino contributed six aces, three digs, and eight assists. McKenzie Wilkie had two aces, 12 digs, and one assist; Adelynn England finished with two kills, one block, and five digs; and Emma Wall added nine assists and one dig.

In the Hurricanes’ loss to Lovett, Ejieke had 16 kills, seven digs, and three blocks. England had eight kills, three digs, and two aces. Morris contributed eight kills and two blocks. Wilkie totaled 14 digs with three assists. Wall and Belarmino combined for 30 assists and seven digs.


Cartersville (25-3, 4-0 Region 7-5A) hosts Ringgold and Union Grove on Thursday starting at 5 p.m. The Lady Canes will visit Woodland on Tuesday to face the Lady Cats and East Paulding.



WOODLAND CLAWS PAST CEDARTOWN


The Lady Cats won a fierce battle with Cedartown on Tuesday night at home, outlasting the Bulldogs in five sets.  Cedartown won sets one and four, but Woodland won sets two, three, and five to win the match 25-27, 26-24, 25-18, 17-25, 15-8.


Ava Lawler produced 30 assists, 11 digs, five blocks, and three aces in the Lady Cats’ victory. Aby Childs had nine kills and 11 digs. Emily Guin finished with 19 digs, nine kills, and five aces. Reese Martinak contributed seven kills and 15 digs. Bella King accounted for six kills, five aces, and three blocks, and Dayana Jaimes totaled 25 digs and three aces.


Woodland (7-18, 2-2 Region 7-5A) hosts East Paulding and Cartersville on Tuesday.



TIGERS DROP TWO MATCHES AT CALHOUN


Adairsville volleyball dropped two matches on Tuesday night at Calhoun, falling to the host Yellow Jackets in two sets and to Heritage-Catoosa 25-27, 13-25.


In the loss to the Lady Generals, Nadelyn Dodson had 14 digs and Teaghan Myers finished with 14 assists. Alexis Scott had six kills. Blaire Fuller contributed five kills, and Sadie Brownlow added seven digs.


Adairsville (8-17, 1-3 Region 7-4A) plays at Sonoraville on Thursday at 5 p.m. and visits Northwest Whitfield on Tuesday at 5 p.m.



CASS REMAINS WINLESS


The Lady Colonels’ volleyball team lost two matches on Tuesday night at Allatoona, falling to The King’s Academy 13-25, 15-25, and the host Buccaneers 7-25, 3-25, 15-25.


Cass (0-22) visits North Paulding on Thursday and will visit Villa Rica on Tuesday, where they will also play Alexander.
