Tuesday's softball roundup: Lady Canes keep pace with Calhoun at top of Region 7-AAAAA standings
Region 7-AAAAA co-leaders Cartersville and Calhoun both collected league wins Tuesday night while the Cass game at Dalton played into the fifth inning before being called off due to weather.
CARTERSVILLE 10, HIRAM 1

Cartersville scored eight runs early and totaled ten hits Tuesday night in a 10-1 Region 7-5A win at Hiram. The win by Cartersville keeps the Hurricanes in a first place tie with Calhoun in the league standings.
Meanwhile, Lady Canes hurler Ava Perkins yielded a run but tossed a five inning, no-hitter to pick up the pitching victory.
The Hurricanes scored six runs in the top of the first inning on four hits and three walks. They added two more runs in the top of the second on three additional hits. Cartersville added two more runs in the fifth inning on solo home runs by Jordan Bishop and Ansleigh Tilley.
Bishop finished with three hits and three RBIs. Kiley Arnold followed with two hits including a double and one RBI. Layne Callan (RBI), Perkins (RBI), Elizabeth Nelson, and Mikey Lewis had the other Cartersville base hits.
Hiram falls to 5-6-2 overall and 1-5 in region play.
Cartersville (6-5-1, 5-1) hosts Dalton in another region contest Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
CALHOUN 5, WOODLAND 3
Woodland softball dropped a 5-3 Region 7-5A decision at Calhoun Tuesday night with the Yellow Jackets remaining in a first place tie in the league standings.
Calhoun built a 5-1 lead by the fifth inning before Woodland challenged in the final frame.
The Yellow Jackets scored two runs in the third inning on three hits and a walk. They added two more on a two-run homer by Aryian Berner in the fourth inning and posted another insurance run in the fifth on four singles.
Trailing 2-0 Woodland narrowed the margin to 2-1 when Peyton Dorn reached on a dropped third strike, moved to third on a pair of groundouts, and scored on a passed ball.
Ashlyn Baines drove in a run for the Lady Cats in the top of the seventh with a groundout and Woodland added a final run on a Calhoun infield error for a 5-3 final.
Haley Collum (6 IP, 5ER, 10H, 1BB, 2K) took the pitching loss for the Wildcats.
Bailey Sakacsi, Jordan Hammonds, and Alana Carnes had the only Woodland base hits in the game off Calhoun winning pitcher, Ansley Hall.
Calhoun improved to 10-3 on the season and 5-1 in Region 7-AAAAA.
Woodland (6-7, 3-3) steps out of region play to host Wheeler Wednesday at 5:55 p.m. and will entertain region foe Hiram Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
CASS AT DALTON RAINED OUT
The Lady Colonels had built an 8-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning Tuesday night at Dalton when rains halted play.
The game was ultimately ruled a rainout and since the teams had not completed five innings, it must be replayed in its entirety.
Cass (6-8, 3-2) hosts Region 7-AAAAA co-leader Calhoun Wednesday at 5:55 p.m. No rescheduled date for the makeup at Dalton has been announced.
